Diesel Toyota sedan gets 1.4-litre turbocharged engine with 88.4PS and 205Nm of torque.

Delhi, July 21, 2010: Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. (TKM) today announced the launch of the Corolla Altis Diesel in India. The latest offering from TKM has been developed keeping in mind the distinctive requirements of the Indian customer with the basic concept of ‘optimum balance of performance and economy’. India is the first Asian country to get the BSIV Corolla Altis Diesel.

The Corolla Altis is available with a newly developed 1.4L in-line 4-cylinder D-4D Common Rail Diesel Engine that generates a peak power of 88.4 PS and a peak torque of 205 Nm. Toyota’s D-4D technology also used in the Innova, Fortuner, Prado and Land Cruiser 200 has earned a reputation the world-over for its high quality, durability and reliability.

The D-4D engine in the Corolla Altis is complemented by a 6-Speed Manual Transmission − a ‘first-in-segment’ offering − to provide flat torque that would mean lesser gear shifting, leading to better fuel efficiency. The car has registered a best-in-class mileage of 21.43 km/l as certified by a test agency.

i agree it must be better but still it is underpowered in my opinion. Corolla should have a 2.0 D4D for some real punch and economy.

This is way better than 2000cc junk which is being sold here for ages. 1.4l not only have lesser emission but also lesser tax and not fall in luxury tax category. What I like about this car is greater fuel economy (as posted here), the audio controls on streering wheels, and climate control air con. Indus Motors should learn lesson from this.

diesel is not a priority fuel now, let alone D4D technology, i dont think indus will launch it here any time soon.

while the 1.3vvti may have higher horsepower, getting there at 6000rpm means you're burning alot more fuel. from 1000-3000rpm, the d4d would feel more responsive.

the 1.4 d4d has 44% more torque, which means so much more pulling power that would be a blessing for folks going up the murree expressway

These D4D engines are very sofisticated and they dont work good with poor quality pakistani diesel. 2C engine can only survive our diesel.

Yes the prices of diesel these days are higher than petrol.
And the quality of the diesel being offered here... :-!
I doubt that a D4D will survive if launched here in Pakistan.

I love the headlight washers, controls steering wheel and not to forget the 6speed manual, this is only after the corolla has been launched a few years ago in IND.Shame on Toyota INDUS shame!!!!!!

yes brothers ,the altis diesel seems underpowered on the paper ,but actually the car is pretty responsive in the city driving conditions and is good for the highways as well,the six speed gearbox being the major factor ...
also the quality of the INDIAN corolla is very gud and is also very well loaded .
