If the crank had locked up due to siezed main and big ends, replace the thing, If the head is not cracked or warped a new set of valves will do, along with a thorough cleaning of everything, including wire brushing all high pressure oil galleries in both the head and cylinder crankcase including the crank.

Measure out everything then proceed. Most engine failures like this are when the crank locks up due to oil starvation. You might want to ask about what oil was being topped up, API SC or SE oil in this engine will cause such breakdown if not changed early. To be honest in all my experience this engine is among the dirtiest, and you would need a bucket load of cleaner, acetone, wire brushes, etc etc to get it clean.

wow u reminded a case ! same but difference was changed the petrol engine with diesel engine oil irani same condition lolx the valves were busted piston head as same condition but car did 92000 as the practice after that water and oil mixed one day car engine became poop

sorry abt ur loss bt driver is the culprit here... Corollas engines r too tough n 98K is nothn u knw dat better thn me... I own a 07 GLi 178K on clock n through out runin on CNG except fr 1st 5K kms of petrol n Alhamdolillah still runnin gr8... no oil burnin nothn elz... Js cz i change oil at exactly evry 3500kms n airfilter at exctly 7K kms n dat also maslf... I have nevr left dis oil n filters matter on driver.

this is an engine destroyed Corolla GLI 3ZZ FE engine 1596 CC, purchased brand new in 2005 sent to Islamabad for work use clocked 98000 km only and see the engine. Apparently driver was responsible for maintenance. the driver log book shows well maintenance record and engine transmission speaks otherwise.

-LESSON: Never trust your paid driver for car maintenance, double check for evey job he gets done & stay in touch with workshop he takes the car for any job. This paid-driver class is HARAMKHOR - we pay him over 12000 plus residence & food and yet he conned me

i used oven cleaner to clean the oil sludge & stain marks at home floor aur abba amma dono hi kehtay thay iss ko theek karwa lo ya sarak par bahar khara karoo floor kala aur ganda rehta hai that was when living with my parents and the Toyota PUBLICA (old starlet) had sump gasket leaked.

I've read in multiple places about Toyota engines being notoriously prone to sludge more than a lot of others... it's all starting to ring true since this one doesn't look too pretty.

P.S.
What might be the cost of a new engine instead of getting work done on this one? Because if the trouble went deeper than you can currently see, it might cause issues later on. This, btw, is coming from a person who has owned two cars that have had engine failures at the behest of oil changes/ oil pumps.

The first one we were able to claim insurance on (we suspected the mechanic forgot to tighten the plug and/or the oil filter after the oil change) and they paid for a new engine- for the second car (I have a V6 Mazda), the oil pump gave up, and since the car was a true work horse (300+ miles per week), I left the maintenance to the end of my school semester (I had synthetic oil in there so I didn't have to worry too much)- didn't even know about the oil pump failure till other things fell apart. But one fine night, I get home and hear the scariest noise coming from the engine. Take it to the mechanic the next morning and find out that my crankshaft bearing in one or more pistons has given up, and that basically means the engine was a writeoff. Getting new bearings installed would be seriously expensive (labor), and the safer bet was to get another engine- a low mileage one which we were thankfully able to find from an insurance junkyard- 30k miles less than what was on mine.
So consider it...

Crank is OK - Block & head physicals are OK

I gave engine number to Toyota UAE (alfuttaim) with the pictures and findings of machine shop they recommended

-head rebuilt kit - 975 dirhams (complete with valves, seats seals & gaskits)
- machine shop asked for size 50 piston
-size 50 pistons with improved combustion curvature, ring, bearings set - 1200 dirhams
-cam & crank bearings set Toyota -700 dirhams
-Oil pump 275 dirhams

All Toyota stuff either from Thailand or Japan.
Purchased from al-futtaim spare parts shop, will be in hand by 11 PM tonight.

local market estimate cost for Japanes stuff not Toyota genuine approx 78000.00 less oil pump.

am not at all surprised with the findings of machine shop was keeping fingers crossed - and machine shop convinced me to believe driver's alibi "driver said while driving engine check light appeared & engine temp shot up so he pulled over and shut down engine checked for the radiator & belts before trying to restart then called mechanic he said 'timing' belt tot gai hai bring to work shop in morning" then i bring car by tow-chain to home us k baad ap agaya.

yes i had all my options open, a front cut corolla X with engine & powertrain IS available but spare change is issue.

so decided in the morning after emailing the pics to Toyota guys in Sharjah workshop and am getting parts for Engine rebuilt from Toyota in UAE. Hope car will be up & running in under Rs. 125,000 by Saturday and I will be saved from hassle of change in documentation with the MVR.
