There are a lot discussion on internet about Type R lap time record. No doubt its impressive for FWD car but there are few things. First the car which completed the lap was a pro type and not a production model. it can be an unofficial record but not an official.
Secondly, the car performing lap was without an HVAC/air conditioning system as well as the entertainment system. The car also lacked the front and rear seats. In production model if all these items are added the weight increase by a major factor , especially the HVAC system and seats. Production model need to run a lap again to make it to records book and as an official record. Nurburgring lap times have many variable factors in place and not all cars have completed the lap times with almost identical weather and other conditions and factors. Honda says they have offset the weight be adding a roll cage.
Anyways still impressive. Honda might send a production car to attempt the lap timings again by end of this year
