Interesting question, I am waiting for my Cuore automatic and was planning to ask this similar question.
On my father's old car a Corolla 88 Automatic, I used to kick the accelerator to down shift. I am not sure if these Pakistani assembled cars have this feature. Basically you give the accelerator a sharp kick such that the accelerator touches the floor, but do not keep it there just a quick press release, it helps in overtaking. Some more complex transmissions have a half-kick as well but I forgot what that did.
Shifting to 2 maybe safe in Altis due to its stepped transmission path, but like the old corolla or Cuore you can end up shifting to L the last position and probably damaging the transmission. But I hope its about time we have some safe guard for an accidental shift like that. Or maybe I am asking for a bit too much
