Preventive maintenance for a diesel car?

Recently I have bought a used corolla 2.0d saloon, it?s a 2006 model which is around 150k driven, I have never owned a diesel car so don?t really know how to maintain one either. Apart from regular oil changes what else should be taken care of and how frequently? Although I have got few things done after buying the car immediately like got its timing belt/bearing changed, changed all kind of fluids like brake, transmission, steering, coolant etc got the fuel filter changed as well. Didn?t touch the nozzles though, used diesel anti-knock /Anti smoke with couple of fills to get them cleaned however and thats it.

The car runs pretty smooth and gives me an average of around 16km/liter with city+highway usage, I want to know how should one maintain a diesel car, I am not at all a car junkie who can understand difficult jargons so I want expert opinion in very basic layman understandable language. I tried to look into various threads but only able to find bits and pieces, so if someone has already talked about it then ignore my ignorance and share that link.

I want to know what performance indicators I should take care of, what are some major problem symptoms and their solution etc, engine tuning, how to gauge if the engine is getting weak, how much smoke is ok smoke and stuff.

Also I would appreciate if you can tell me what kind of work I should get done on suspension, as now I can hear the thuk thuk sound from front every time I turn the wheel. Shall I go for repair or new set of suspension/shocks etc?

Nice Choice if anyone can afford it, I own 2000 corolla for almost eight years,

I used shell oil and interval was 3000 kms with guard oil filter, air filter changed when required but always clean air filter when inflate tyres,

normal service interval for 2-c is 40000 kms and on every 40000 kms I use to go diesel laboratory to check nozzles, on 1[SUP]st[/SUP] 40000 they clean & adjust nozzles but on 80000 kms they replace it, so I replaced nozzles twice 1[SUP]st[/SUP] on 80000 and 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] on 160000 kms, 1st timing belt was replaced at 80000 kms and second on 160000 kms.

In 08 years I never had a problem and when I sold it was driven 175000 without single break down )

Don't go toyota they will check and say your engine need overhaul )

Diesel laboratory mean where diesel engine nozzles are cleaned/replaced, fuel pumps are cleaned, these labs have some sort of equipment where they put new/used nozzles and make the diesel flow balanced......

it is checked like any petrol engine is checked.

test 1 - check and adjust valve clearance
test 2 - check and adjust injection timing
test 3 - check compression pressure
test 4 - test fuel system for satisfactory working.

Other than that - oil change with diesel rated oil at 5000 kms with new oil filter. Always have coolant in the system otherwise the block and head may erode. Ensure that the fuel system is clear of water/fungus. If you have bad quality fuel in your area clean the tank yearly, replace fuel filter every 3rd oil change and drain the sedimenter under the filter every tankful.

Other than that to beat down the diesel to require an overhaul is hard and nearly impossible work, It becomes easy work if you run it dead cold all the time.
