Do we need to change Tranmission Oil?

Hi All,

I just bought a 2013 civic prosmatic - its my first automatic car. Currently its 36,000 km driven and is in perfect condition with no issue at all.

But a friend is insisting me that you must get its transmission oil changed at 40,000 otherwise it will start having issues and if you delay it any further it might damage the gear box.

What do you guys say? Ive never heard about transmission oil? Do i really need to replace it?

Consult the user manual?WHat does it say about trasmission oil change interval?Normally 40k is too low for a change.

Yes,get it changed at every 40000 kms.

It is forty thousand kms or three years. Anyways major service is due at 40k where all fluids filters are changed.

Honda recommends to change the ATF at 40k km's and since your car is only two years old get it done from a Honda dealership and ONLY use Honda's recommended ATF its mentioned in your cars owners manual about the recommended ATF and change interval

Toyota User Manual says for Super ECT transmission to change the oil after 70,000 to 80,000 km and for manual transmission 40,000 km. But you have to look at the user manual of your car what Honda says for this car, if its due according to the user manual then obviously get it changed.

50k is the rule of thumb for ATF replacement for most auto transmissions. To maintain your warranty, it would be wise to just get it replaced at 40k from a Honda dealership. Make sure that they pour DW-1, not Z1.

isnt it strange that MTF is to be changed at 40k whereas ATF at 70-80k from what i know.heard its usually the opposite

what would you guys recommend for altis 2010. the dipstick says ATF does not need to be replaced except under extreme conditions. the car is only 8000km driven in 5 years. so should i get the ATF changed as its 5 year old or can i follow the dipstick as i dont think its use will qualify for severe conditions as most of the milage was motorway miles not stop start. the ATF itself is clean and doesnt smell burnt.

if i do need to get it changed should i just have it drained and refilled which would only change 30-40% of it or the full sump open etc. keeping in mind its milage.

there is about 2 to 3 litres of gear oil in the manual box, while there is about 7 to 10 litres ATF in an autobox. it takes a while to beat down that much of oil.

That is one reason AT is connected to oil cooler - i.e lines from AT to radiator bottom which is double tank in JAP cars
