    Default Civic 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th Gen Comparison Thread

Lets compare the different generations of Civic.

Despite a few newer models up, many of us still fancy the 5th generation over the 6th, or even 7th generation Civics. This is the thread to shower your inputs based upon experience with any of the Civics you've driven, or owned.

It starts with a few comments posted in a civic for sale thread which I'll be importing, we can continue from there onwards.

If you want a soft suspension buy a Crown. Sports sedans should have hard suspensions. Helps with cornering and stability of the vehicle. I think the 8th gen is just fine. My 5th gen still drives great even after 15 years and I prefered its drive to that of the 2007 City in every way!

6th gen steering is pretty light, even with 16 inchers, and very precise, dont know about 7th gen.

and can u point to me some honda literature where it suggests atlas civic 8th gen has EPS? cuz mine doesn't.

You are the first one in world to claim that 6th gen suspensions are better.

Also the first one to claim about the steering ratio, incidentally my boss had one 96 VTI Auto 90K driven Petrol and Honda South maintained, and I also have some idea of the car.

Can you tell us how many turns it has lock to lock compare to 7th gen or otherwise how better it is?

Manual and Auto both are more responsive, one more gear and the ability to lock down in 1st gear, clutch is lighter and prosmatic has a less delay in throttle response then previous one, all Civics generations had improve on gearbox.

Honda's are not manufactured in our dear country only, the world is not dependent on around 4,600 cars which we produce here and I thought that the thread is not all about Local manufactured Civics, majority is powered by EPS, even the SI and Type R, please correct me if I am wrong.

as earlier, i wud only talk about auto, the 8th gen 5 speed has bad gear ratios when used in our traffic., atleast to my driving style. bit too long to say the least.

offcourse 8th. its better in almost all aspects, and that is why it is more expensive.

They dont change the model just for shape, they improve it aswell. its a FACT. as simple as that.
baqi saab angoor kahtae wali batien hain. If someone has an extra 2 million on hand and wants to buy a NEW car, he would for sure buy 8th gen civic not an old one. i,e if he wants to buy Civic.

PS: I hav owned/driven all atlas civic models.

    Agreed!

baqi saab angoor kahtae wali batien hain.
I would disagree with you on this one,
If you say that people who go for 5th or 6th gen civics are those who are low on budget then I would like to tell you that there are many people who bought 5th or 6th gen civics and they have spent more than 2 lacs on the engine swaps and other upgrades,
Its not about the money, but the mindset and the personal liking for one specific model.
One of the most difficult things in the world is to know how to do something, and to watch without comment, somebody else do it incorrectly.

    Sir

Usually it works like you said, but that is not the case here.

Just drive both the cars for 100kms, in a busy traffic jam, on Karachi city's broken B roads and on an intercity highway, with family and luggage.

If someone has to put a lot of luggage and he finds out that his near 2 million car has less luggage space then his 5 years old car which he bought for half the price.

If the office is 25 km one way with traffic jams in both morning and evening, with nearly a 90 minutes route and one has to fill the tank weakly.

If someone has to install an aftermarket ICE and he will be looking for panels and spacers all over the market or dealership.

Also, if side mirrors are stolen or some biker hit on headlights/tail lights, scratch front/rear bumpers and one will go for replacement and get an estimate of nearly 40K from dealership.

And finally if someone finds out one sunny morning that the engine mounts have failed and this is the 4th month after end of 2 yrs warranty, the repair bill is 28K Rs.

At the time of tax, tracker and insurance/takaful payments.

I am sure you will rephrase your statement.

Even today, if Honda Atlas starts to manufacture 7th gen Civic for 300K less, no one will buy the new Civic or City.

    Regards

    that was petty unrealistic claim.

Btw.. i hav/had owned both cars, and hav driven them not for 100km but for thousands of KM, the odo of my 8th gen. civic in on 35K Km.

the fact remains that 8th is an improved car from 7th.

but i would agree to some extent with daniyal that it does depend on personal choice, but Given the choice (And money no poblem) 90% ppl will buy 8th over 7th. and u mugt just do that as well, but u r not willing to accept it.

Good good! Keep it going, and keep it healthy!

It may take a while for us only-two-decades-into-cars-money-drivens to understand that car enthusiasm has not much to do with ''angoor khattay hain'', which is lame, as well as a cheap void argument.

Newer is not always better, it is supposed to be, but not always. I'll suffice by posting this TG video of the 8th gen vs the 7th gen. (Though I can go on about people preferring the 1996 Corolla over the 2009 one, the CL9 Accord over the newer ones, the 67 mustang over the 98 one, and so on...)

i sold my 00 civic and got 95 just bcoz of personal liking to 95s... though general ppl said "log car sale ker k agay ka model lete hain tum ne purana model le lya ha:p"

u hav got to be kidding me...

an analogy of mustang with ATLAS honda would be beyond ridiculous and insanity. Now thats what defines LAME.
and wowwww a TOP gear (whic is the most "serious" consumer advice show).. civic type R .. comparison..,.. def. thats exactly what we get here.... real genius .. bravo !
Same goes for JDM to PDM.

when it comes to ATLAS honda.... model hav simpley IMPROVED in terms of quality and drive.
Brake r better, drive is better, option r better (Ai bags etc), Quality is better ..!!!

Dont tell me u r comparing Thai or JDM or USDM models.

Judge what ge het here. and becuase of low quality MODEL R ALWAYS imrpoved when we talk abt Pakistan.

You're right, TopGear isn't a benchmark. But honestly, for most of us, the credibility of TopGear's verdict is more than that of some unknown web-ber who has owned and driven 3-4 cars in total

As for the analogy, I knew there would be people who'll take 'reference' as 'analogy', but I didn't know it would be so soon

not gone through whole thread yet...

i've played much with 5th, 6th and 7th gen civics....

to me 5th and 6th r more focused towards sporty drive, 7th gen is more towards drive comfort and its more like a family car in comparison..
e.g. suspension setup for 5th & 6th is durable Double-Wishbone designed for better handling whereas from 7th it is mcpherson that is softer and designed for comfort (feel of road is less)
