    Default Nissan B14 2.0D

Hey there guys. Need your precious advice. I have been looking for sunny 2000-2002 1.4 EGI petrol version. However, I have noticed that most of the cars available for sale are 2.0L diesel versions. I never had a diesel car so if i go for one, there are few questions in my mind.

Are diesel cars economical in fuel consumption?
What is the overall maintenance cost as compared to petrol ones?
Are diesel cars a good buy for long-term home use if in good condition?
What to check in a diesel car when inspecting for a possible buying?

Any other feedback that you guys wanna give in this respect. Also, please let me know about the repute of Nissan Diesel cars. Last but not least, if any one is willing to sale or come across any sunny of above model available for sale, please do let me know on my cell number.

Your feedback for above will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cheers

@mods: I am sorry if I have posted in wrong section. Please redirect my thread to appropriate place and let me know. Thanks.

@ser_gtr. Thanks for reply buddy. Can you please tell me how much km it does approx in 1L of diesel. I have read that diesel engines are good in fuel efficiency as compared to petrol engines.

it gives me 16 km/l in winters with no ac and around 15 with full time ac in summers, its average is better than the Toyota 2c diesel engine, maintenance is the regular filters and oil, if done in time than its a very reliable engine.

though the sky high prices of diesel these days has led to increase running cost hence its low demand and low price.

By filter change you mean diesel filter, air filter, oil filter and after how much interval these are performed. Which brands do you use? I am seriously thinking about getting a diesel one as no body is willing to sell the petrol B14 2000-2002n model. Also, I wil be having my first diesel car if i go after it so please teach me a lil bit about its maintenance. Thanks

    usually recommended is
    diesel filter at 10k km
    air filter at 10k km
oil filter every second oil change

though due the immensely dusty environment and contaminated fuel we get i do all the above mentioned at half of this interval i.e.
diesel filter and air filter @ 5k km
and oil filter every oil change i.e. 3k km.

i use LEP-ON (i guess its Malaysian) or qaim and the set costs me around 800.

Thanks a bunch for all the information. I am going to see one this evening. Its 2001 model, black, diesel. What important things should i note regarding engine cuz thats the only area i would be afraid of when inspecting by myself. Also, as you said about regular maintenance, it looks okay to me. What is your experience with your car. I would be very glad if you share it with me. Thanks again for the info.

when you see the car - it should be dead cold, if not then the owner is trying to hide something. A dead cold diesel should start on its first preglow time - i.e. glow light goes out and the engine starts quickly with a puff of black smoke. (whitish diesel smelling smoke is a sign of extreme cold weather) warm it up and drive it around it should not have sluggish or dead engine response - look for excessive burnt fuel exhaust. (black).

once warm pop the bonnet and check for induction noise or air pumping out of the air filter (bad timing + valve clearances), check engine knock noise it should be even not the occasional added knock - and when revved the noise should diminish - it should only knock when idling. Also note if the owner has been using coolant or plain water - are the rad fans direct running or auto - ask if the owner has ever changed the headgasket.

You can also check its compression a cheap way if its manual transmission - park it backwards on a slope and apply 4th gear with engine off - let go of the brakes - you should feel it stop on every cylinder compression stroke. If yes, its a solid engine - if no its compression is a bit low (this is also a good time to check if the original glow timer works - a hot engine glow time would be very small or next to nothing)

about owning it - filters are the best life line, and use some branded industrial filters in it - (they work far better and you can buy them easily) - secondly your issues can be glow plugs burning out if used excessively - and you needing to buy a beefy battery with correct mixture quality for it to start on first key (I cant emphasize enough on pure components to make the acid mixture and put in a quality battery - with good battery cables etc.) Any diesel requires solid starter shoves to overcome the high compression bumps

Check for engine blow at idle with the oil cap sitting on the cover but not tight - if its just plopping about - with no excessive smoke - now rev the engine to twice the idle speed i.e. about 1800 revs the oil cap should be steady now, if its blowing harder - but if it is blowing hard - your compression test would have failed too.

Finally - the timing belts are tricky on this engine as there are no marks on the cylinder head to line the pulley with, the belt is marked itself for alignment, likewise for the injection pump.

Friends. Last day i went to see a car 2001 2.0L diesel. I looked in light of suggestions of Xulfiqar bhai and it was near to optimum. Though it has got a hit in back but that is no serious hit to call it a major accident so i overlooked it. I will give it one last look today and done it for buying. Thanks for all the support extended from all who contributed their valuable suggestions in this thread. Thanks all. Will disturb you again when i will have it in my hands . Cheers

Just wanna share the condition of car. It is sprayed from outside, inside original. Engine bay original, sealed engine (also confirmed by my mechanic), some work done in steering & suspension, interior is good (though not excellent), A/c needs gas recharge, colour is good (nice matching), trunk will need some adjustment and I am getting it under 400,000.

Bro thats a good buy if ur satisfied considering that a mehran of 2003 costs almost same in ISB.

    @Xulfi

Since ur the expert, bro i have a 2.0D toyota. Got it zero meter and it passes every test u have mentioned above. It has been driven 140K KM. I changed its timing belt, diesel injectors (assuming they have been worn after 100K). Rest is timely maintainence always done with best quality engine oil & filters available and frequent change intervals. Is there anything you would advice to check further to keep it running prestine.

@Dani Bro personally i like diesel torque alot while driving it. If its a good diesel u might enjoy it more than petrol.
