Default Engine Swap in Nissan Sunny 1991 (B13)

    AoA,

Thread update: Swapped the engine with EFI one after wasting double the money on overhaul. Details of swap from page-2

Guys I recently got a Nissan Sunny 1991. Currently it has a carby 1300cc engine, which frequently gives bluish white smoke, particularly, during start ups. Its very generous in eating up the engine oil.

Many have suggested to go for 16 valve twin cam EFI engine. One guy told me that he visited Ahata Mithu a few months ago and got 12 valve engine swapped for 17k, while 16 valve engine was available for around 24K.

Would appreciate if someone can guide me about best engine (I prefer EFI), the prices, the best place to get engine and best workshops to get the Nissan swaps done.

    Thanks

    ^^^

Got it overhauled. If it causes troubles, I'll probably change the car, rather than doing more experiments on this one.

The decision to go for overhaul has turned out to be a disastrous one, mainly because of dishonest idiot mechanic. I have already spent around 70K (Engine overhauled twice, head jobs due to blown gaskets 4-5 times with engine oil changed each time).

Now I'm looking for engine swap, as I don't wanna sell this car due to all the luxuries, and drive experience it offers.

Though my daily travelling is 8-10Km only, I'm looking for sheer power car with economy also in mind (Have to visit Jhang, Lahore occassionally, once or twice in a year)

After my study, I'm left with following options:

    QG16DE
    GA16DE

Experts please guide me if QG series engines are compatible with existing E13 transmission or not? And which one I should go for, GA or QG?

Today I visited Ahata Mithu and it was a pleasure to find Nissan engines at such cheap prices.

I have three options, each costing 55k for uncut wiring, with complete gear box, starter motor (Sulf), generator, AC compressor etc., plus installation and wiring:

    1. GA15DE
    2. QG15DE
    3. QG18DE

I'm very much clear in rejecting the first option. So need your advice in selecting amongst the last two.

As per one guy, QG18 and QG15 consumption is almost same, while other guy told that QG18 gives max 12 KM/L in city, while QG15 goes up to 15-16. Anyone having experience with these two engines, please help.

Thanks, I'll go for one of these tomorrow, InshaAllah (Have to tow the car from Isb to Saddar, as gasket is burnt and I'm in no mood to spend another 3K for fixing it, just to carry the car to place of swap). Will also change existing dual barrel radiator with newer dual barrel radiator, as the shi t radiator guy changed it with almost dead radiator when I last gave it to him for cleaning. I have been robbed so many times that I don't trust anyone now)

And even though I'm desperately in favor of QG18 due to sheer power, I'm afraid it may be too much for B13???

One Of Members say It Won't Handle QG18 Pretty Much Well So I Would Say Go For QG15DE....Its Much Easy To Fit With Less Weight On Nose.....With Better Mileage......!
Qg18 Will Be A Bit Longer Block And Torque Will Be Ample....You will Need To Upgrade Suspension Along With Brakes As Well Then......!

Make All Sensors Work Well And You Are Good To Go....

A nissan talk without me QG15 does not have NVCR (VTEC and VVTI equivalent) and it does give bette reconomy in city. Both will be a nice fit. GA and QG transmissions are similiar. Wiring it can be troublesome. I can forward you to a reliable person who did the swap for my N16 if u want.

We have in our friends list, B13, Two B14 and two N16 with QG18's and they are all working great. Do not miss a beat Alhamdulillah. One had a QG15 but then he shifted to 18 for the low end torque (starting from 1800 rpms) which u need most in city driving.

95% of time, I'm on city driving. So which one do you suggest?

If the reliable guy is Mr. Asghar Khan, i already visited him, but getting better deals from other guy who also deals in Nissan engines only.

One thing i noted after studying is that GA16DE and QG16DE both have repute of being powerful as well economical. Their technology is different from GA15/QG15.

Also my friend claims QG13 gives 20-22 KM/L (swapped in many Nissan's running in Attock).

Neither GA16/QG16, nor QG13 are available anywhere here. So I smell something fishy here. Is QG15 a flop if compared to 13 & 16, and being pushed to PK market as junk???

On the other hand, QG18, mainly designed for monster Bluebird has got awards for best technology.

Mushtaq is the main person in mithu khan for nissan petrol engines. He is Asghar Khans cousin BTW and the reliable person is a mechanic in Sultan ka Khoo. he has other links as well to source parts as required at verygood prices. Pashto advantage i guess. All these cars i mentioned were swapped at his shop except one which was more of a DIY.

QG13 was only offered by gandhara so no kabli engines. It is not a JDM engine. JDM ones are 1.5 and 1.8 and very few 1.6. Most 1.6 are sourced from Singapore, thailand or australia and they are not as good as JDM ones. 1.3 was for Africa, philipines and Pakistan and maybe other similiar 3rd world countries. Economy of 1.3 is deceptive. it has to be driven very carefully if u want it to work economically otherwise it takes more fuel compared to 1.5 or even 1.8.

    *NVCR = NVCT

Also, Nissan rawalpindi is good in doing such things but they prefer doing it on N16. old ones they avoid because they can get complicated and results might not come good on the scanner (Nissan Consult tool)

Yes, Asghar only had GA15, so upon my query for QG engines, he took me to Mushtaq shop, whose rates turned out to be higher than other guy after i further explored based on advice from a friend.

Coming to the actual swap part, I need guidance from you guys:

    1. I'm not willing to take a mechanic with me to check the engine. There are 6-7 engines lying there, so how to select the best one amongst them.

    2. Would it be better to purchase the engine separately and get installed from that Chah-e-Sultan mechanic?

    3. Old engine being adjusted in 10K (Will check how much he can give for the outgoing gearbox, which, btw, can be reused with new QG egnine as per the engine guy, but I don't want even a single nut bolt reused!!!). So suggest some Kabaria who can offer better rates?

better to trust the kabariya baout engine selection so he honours his warranty as well. Engine can be purcahsed seperately but that way mechanic wont take full responsibility of the whole swap. It is always better to keep the guns on them (kabariya and mechanic)rather then on yourself. That works out to your advantage. I do not know of any other kabariya as we always asked the mechanic to arrange things for us with full trust and responsibility. Otherwise if something do not turn out correct they say, aap laye thaay engine. I hope u got my point.
