all things considered, i still love it here.

I critisize the way this place is run with nearly every breath in me. but it's up to us to improve OUR country.

my dad used to always tell me, "you came from here" & "this country made you who you are",.. only now that he's gone does it make sense to me.

first thing we need to do is unite, under one flag, not live segregated lives in our provinces,.. if we call ourselves pakistanis then we should not discriminate between religions (we have a few), castes (old indian mentality), colour, pay scale, etc.

only if we unite will we be strong.

I strongly agree with you storm.I think Pakistan should abolish the apostasy law so that people who want to convert from Islam to other religions can officially change their status.Besides that,I hate the discriminatory laws in the education system that you are granted extra marks for being a hafiz of quran.What about those who are non muslims.

Religion should be separate from state laws.It is a matter of belief.Shouldn't be imposed on others.We are all Pakistanis,be it muslims,christians,atheists,hindus,jews and ex muslims.

the highest level of unity our mind stretches to is on the level of NATIONALISM
which is prohibited in islam , as it is an obstacle to the unty of muslim ummah.

the most we would be able to do is to call ourselves "PAKISTANIS"

Pakistan is a secular country , with a secular mindset ruling , with a secular legal and political system . so dont insult islam , by comparing the political and legal system
of this so called child of NEW SECULAR ORDER , to the rulership , and the legal system of our Prophet Muhammad Pbuh.

a muslim in rule is NOT islam in rule.

I dont call myself a muslim.Iam not a muslim.I was just born a muslim.Unfortunately the country's unfair laws prohibit a person to officially change his status from muslim to other.

There are many non-muslims who like all laws of our state/religion and follow them without problem...

And btw , Pakistan is officially an Islamic State ( Islamic Republic of Pakistan )

Iam not talking about inefficiency.Its actually in our legal system that a person can't convert from islam to any other religion but he's most welcomed to convert from other religion to islam.Wasn't religion supposed to be a matter of personal belief.Why is the state enforcing it?

ur wrong actually, a non-muslim can not become president(thats in the constitution), or assume any other senior position in the country(thats not necassarily in constitution, but naturally its not possible for non-muslims due to social reasons...)
Since all senior positions are held by muslims, non-muslims are treated as minority...
most important position is obviously in the army, and army dont take non-muslims to officer positions...

No one punished you , you just did not receive all the rights. And muslims living in countries ran by different religions do face alot of the same problems which you are. do some reserach or better yet just take a peek to the right side of the border.....

That is not the case in other countries.A person can convert to whatever they want.That accounts for the growing number of muslim converts in western countries which is alarming for non muslims.Non muslims,especially in europe,protest against muslim immigration in their country but to no avail because the government doesn't discriminate against a person of any race or religion.Besides that,alot of people convert to Islam in the west and they are allowed to by the full extent of the law,doesn't depend on the population of that religion in their country.They don't have discriminatory laws like we do in Pakistan.

And I don't know which section of the article it is.I just contacted a lawyer to change my religious status and he referred me to the law of apostasy in Pakistan.It is also written on NADRA's site.Check it under amendment of CNIC.Its written change of religion from Islam to other will not be entertained.

I honestly belief that even if Pakistan is an Islamic republic,it should give equal rights to minorities and that people should have freedom to believe in what they percieve is right.

But Faez,you have answered my question that Pakistan is supposed to be biased as it is Islamic republic.
