MNJC Road.. A Review of Climate
Manshehra Naran Jalkhad Babusar Chilas Road is variety of flora and climates.
You can see the beautiful green hilly area of Mansehra. Jungles of Cheer pine of lower elevations.
The same climate gone upto Balakot and Paras. The soil is reddish.
From Malakandi area, you can see the higher elevation pine trees. The soil is not red it is some whitish/grayish...
The pine trees continues upto Jalkhad (Approx 10000' ASL)
Then after Jalkhad the tree lines get end alpine vegetation meadow starts...
This area is upto Babusar Pass.
At Babusar Village (On chilas side of pass), the pine trees appears and then disappears as you loose altitude.
And sooner as you near to chilas, greenry get to an end and the whole terrain is dry.
And finally the Chilas is a Qul Fed green patch.. At Chilas your altitude is almost equal to Mansehra.
Now the question is that why the area ahead Babusar pass is dry, the Moonsoon system actually doesnt cross the Himalyas (Starting from Nepal to Nanga Parbat and Dofana in Pakistan). with minimum elevation 13000'ASL. This is a continious wall of mountains, with some passes in between to cross.
So Ahead Babusar and Himalya the dry region (Gilgit Baltistan) start with very less rains, but in winter these areas gets heavy snowfall that melts all year round.
Note: As the year 2010 is some special year in term of moonsoon, and moonsoon winds cross this himalyan wall and abnormal rainfall brings floods also in the GB area.
