with any flat face sump bolt I use a soft copper washer, then gently tighten and loosen it 3 or 4 times so the washer can form a seal and finally tighten about just a little more than hand tight with a spanner, I have never had that bolt leak on any car.

If the mechanic tries to yank it like a gorilla he will strip it out.

If you dont have a NEW copper washer with you for replacement then find a denter to heat up the old one till it glows orange - then dunk it in water. It will be soft again.

When I was abroad, Toyota service charges for my included cost of washer for oil drain nut and they changed it every time when oil was changed. Here in Pakistan I asked at one of renowned Toyota dealership workshop to change the washer and they were stunned. They were like "they never heard about any one changing this washer" Even parts guy was telling that he would sell bolt and washer both but not washer alone.

Toyota originally use a steel washer that is crushable (cheap) Its got a thin raised lip on the outside to form the seal. You are supposed to renew that any time the bolt is unscrewed as it cannot seal again. always use a copper item (you can buy them easily from a place that only sells nuts n bolts) and they can be reused over and over again. Just heat them up till they glow and quench them in water - you can then bend them between your fingers - thats how soft they become, after a long time under the bolt compression force they become hard. (keep at least 1 spare one in your car and use that, remember to take the old one and have it softened by a denter ustaad)

The parts counters of dealeships in Pakistan are a giant joke, they cannot even operate their own parts database correctly and have no idea of parts kits.

To install gently tighten the bolt - no need to push with body weight on it as the sealing is done by the washer being in compression not the threads. I dont think any car comes with taper pipe threads on the sump bolt. I fail to understand the logic of mechanic ustaads and their shaagirds who tighten it like crazy till it strips out the sump.

btw ekdrifter, if you strip out the threads in a steel sump you can remove it and weld a new nut on it. You can also tap it to a larger bolt size if you dont want to remove it. Remember to use proper sealing compound and not kaali shilikone (RTV) on it.

i once saw a mechanic sniffing gas out of the exhaust of mehran while tuning it. I asked him WTF he thinking he was doing. He said main naak sa soongh k bata deta hoon k gari ka air petrol mixture sahi hai k nai. I was stunned this guy could have died any moment due to carbon monoxide coming out of exhaust.

the same guy used to suck petrol in his mouth while doing something i don't know may be fuel pump repair or something similar.

i already did that bigger size bolt and now that weld thing i want to do it but with bigger size washer it works with normal size it will leak as seen on friends alto same problem and he was naive in this stuff he changed the whole sump from dealership which costed him including labor 12K but welding a nut that's more like it will do it after ramadan and proper sealing compound sir i seen a guy using what solution plumber use for joints pvc pipes and it has written INFLAMMABLE that big on it no wonder we see burnt cars every day.

If you dont overtighten it - the threads never strip in the first place.

went to a/c walla and asked him check the ac gas car was baleno 1996 the a/c guy checked and asked gas was ok i said why cooling was not chilled like new cars he said well it is due that your radiator fan was auto if you direct the radiator fan and you a/c cooling chilled....i am surprised.....the theory.......

Here's my worst experience which almost ended in a tragedy.

I had a 7th gen civic, and the car had this issue of wobbling while accelerating. It was annoying. We had tried absolutely everything but nothing worked.

So one smart mechanic took a measuring tape, went under the car for about half an hour, came out and informed me that 'gaddi aggeyon khul gayee ae' (the car has 'widened' up from the front). Hence when I accelerate, the weight is thrown on the rear wheels, the axles come a tad out and hence the vibration. He sounded convincing so I said go ahead and fix it.

Now He put two washers (spacers) on each outer axle and fixed the wheels. And surprisingly, it worked. The vibration which no one could fix, went away.

That night I had to go to Isd from Lhr. Around Sukheki I started feeling a faint vibration in the wheels. By Bhera it had turned into wobbling. A little further and it felt like my car was swaying all across.

So I stopped at the next qayam-o-ta'aam only to see my wheels pointing in different directions. I jacked up the car and both my front wheels had a good 2 inch 'play' in them.

It turned out that the washers at high speed had pushed the whole assembly out, and a few more kilometers and my wheels would've left the car leaving me toppled over some kallar kahar ridge.

I ofcourse didn't continue my journey, had to replace the whole wheel assemblies, later sold the car, and learnt never to let the roadside mechanics come anywhere near to the suspensions/wheels of the car.

I used to service my Honda bike from Honda 3S dealer.
I observed the issue of missing when i accelerate above 70.
Informed them but the faild to rectifie that issue, even they tried there best.

Last week i decided to go an ordinary shop and informed him about that issue.
he replaied me that this not an issue, dealer ship people were fixing the air filter wrongly.
So he changed the direction of air filter aand after that i tested the bike on 100 and there is no problem in pick , up to now.
bike response is fine .

a desi totka i know..
when there is a crack in any rubber pipe you can temporarily fix it up by applying elfy on it along with MATTI "soil" it will seize the leakage for few days..
