So sorry for your loss.. I too experienced the same thing a year back.. My city was on fire due to short circuit.. The only reason i could figure out was the sound system i had installed.. I use to smell a strange burning smell initally, i even got it checked from a person bt cudnt pin point anything bavk then.. Probably didnt luk at the fuse box.. N aftr parking the car it was like a bbq in the engine dpt. N in 5 mins my i could see the floor thru the right headlight.. Unluckily i tried to open the bonet bt the wire was burned so i was left with just watchng the thing burn up..I think ur mechanic either made joints in some wire or altered sumthng in a way which bypassed the fuses etc. I learned a lesson to leave everything stock since then.. No lighys or sound system etc.. I literally threw the base tube/speakers/n amp out of the car that night when uninstalling it.. Luckily i had insurance n through a few links covered it in total loss.. From the looks of it, ur cars saved.. Sadka do brother and next time go to a proper professional person regarding electrical alterations.
