A couple of videos have been posted by PakWheels over YouTube regarding 0 to 100 kph speed acceleration test of various vehicles. Being an engineer, I have strong reservations over the values for the following reasons;
1. In stock conditions, the car's speed o meters are tuned to show more speed as compared to the actual one. For example, Toyota Corolla shows 110 kph as 120 kph which can be easily verified using GPS mobile apps (Google Maps etc.). Hence, (if the tyres were stock) the time from 0 to 100 was actually time rom 0 to 92. Same is the case with other car manufacturers e.g. Honda but all have different variations.
2. On changing the stock tires or if the air is not enough the speed reading shown on the meter may get inaccurate. For example, Honda city with 175/65/R15 shows 96 kph as 100kph while with 185/65/R15 it shows nearly correct value up to 100 kph.
Therefore, the only accurate way to compare cars is to use a GPS device (may be a mobile with good sensors) in cars to note the speed. Furthermore, the device should be kept same across all cars and time and road should also be same for more accuracy. Otherwise the values may not be correct.
