'05 Honda Civic manual: Engine timing belt replaced but valves damaged apparently

Yesterday, while driving the car suddenly stopped, the engine check light came on and I had to pull it over. Towed it back to my house, mechanic came and said the engine timing belt is broken.

So, he replaced the timing belt, we tried to start it up, but the engine is misfiring, letting out mild black smoke, and producing a loud and rough sound with lots of visible vibration.

He said the head will need to be opened up for valve replacement.

Now, I need some solid leads on a good mechanic in DHA Karachi and would also like to know a rough estimate on the cost, for example, parts and labour.

The car has been mint all these years and, in fact, this is the first time the engine check light has ever come on or I've dealt with a major engine repair.

timing belts are supposed to be changed at every 100,000 kms...

which engine do you have. hondapartsnow.com is a good place to identify the parts needed

of the top of my head,

you will need,

complete set of new valves,
new valve seals
valve cover gaskets/seals
new headgasket.
good time to change oil seals as well (camshaft/crank shaft)

depending if you changed it before or not, new water body, new timing belt tensioner.

Yes, I completely neglected the 100,000 kms part, it's actually over that.

The engine is a 2005 Honda Civic VTi, manual.

Would anybody be kind enough to lend some thoughts on the rough estimate I'm looking at for parts and labour?

Also, what are some really GOOD mechanics/workshops for this kind of job in DHA. I don't want to take her to a Honda dealership.

Cost breakup for D15 or 16 is as below. Below were the prices last year from Honda Sugoi, authorized Honda Atlas 1S

56K for 16 valves,,,,
16K for timing adjuster bearing
4-5K for original timing belt
10-15K kharadia will take
valve seals no price idea...maybe 10-15K
timing side 2 seals i guess 2.5-3K
OEM head gasket 5-6K
3 bottle of coolant if manual...1200/ Liter honda type 2 coolant
5w30 oil
OEM oil filter
but send head to maker and see if how many valves are bent, than you can change as per his recommendations

I hope head is not much faced before because to use an original head gasket it has to have certain thickness, but a mechanic would measure and tell. Not sure about Honda in Karachi because i am Lahore based.

Give them a visit and check what they have to say.

I already spoke to Honda and they will charge me an arm and a leg. Rather than work on the defective parts only, it seems they will replace the entire valves set along with every other accompanying part for the valves and timing belt.

Spoke to another guy who was a former Honda mechanic - asked him to complete the job on 2 installments (payment) as he had quoted me a 50k estimate. Well, I haven't heard from him.

So, at odds at the moment. Would you please ask around and recommend anyone from Gizri, for example? I really haven't taken my car to any mechanic but Honda 3S dealerships in the past but that was years ago.
