Brother, can you please inform me regarding the price of this Alternator as I intend to buy one. If I were you then I won’t install an engine size bigger then 800c.c and would even try to go for 600 c.c engine. What I believe that the most critical mistake people make is that they try to install a bigger engine whereas smaller engines can also handle the similar load. All what engine does is maintain a constant RPM and that constant RPM can easily be maintained by 800 c.c engine. At the end of the day, Alternator produces the electricity, not the engine and once you will try extract more power from alternator then the one it has been designed for then every engine will try to increase its RPM in-order for Alternator to provide that extra power. Once extra load is demanded then it should be provided in micro seconds whereas we all know that every engine requires few seconds to increase its RPM. This time difference can easily kill the alternator and no matter what you do, you cannot avoid that. That’s why every Generator runs at one constant RPM. Once you plan to maintain a constant RPM then why install bigger engine. Concept bigger is better is wrong. One more argument is, we know 800 c.c car with entire weight of body and passenger can easily goto 100 km/h. that is a lot of load if you compare this with this Alternator.

This was my understanding regarding the subject. Do let me know if you think I am wrong as it will improve everyone’s understanding on the subject.

sir we make a generator before with 1000cc petrol efi when alternator takes load and magnetic field in alternator started grabbing the inner shaft load on engine become more and more strong then in result u got fluctuation in volts and when engine take load it starts vibrating that results in a disaster with whole setup.i never recommend 660cc for more than 5kw alternator becoz we have experience it.loss of money and time.better go for the better match.

well the engine Hp directelly depends on RPM,,,,,,,,,,if we are not adding any gear system then we need high torque engines,,,,,,,,,,,,,,like we cant drive the car uphills on 4th gear,,,,,,,,and if we really want to make it posible then we need very very high torque engine,,,,,,,,,by adding gears we make it posible with even smaller engine,,,,,,,,,,,same we can do with generators,,,,,,,,,,i make a complete feasibility of 10Kw generator with 800 CC engine in which i make a pully system,,,,,,,,diameter of all the pullys were carefully calculated in all that ,,,,,,lets see i find that in my laptop or not,,,,,,,,,,,,will try to post that ,,,,,,,

sir i disagree with u. 800cc never support ur 10kw system when u have to run 3 ac,2 fridges and whole house appliances.even 1000cc cant handel the load.

There are no set rule, c.c and Hourse power are completely different units. c.c is the unit of Volume whereas Horse power is the unit of Power. In good engines 1c.c may correspond to 1 horse power whereas in few engines 256 c.c may even correspond to 1 horse power e.g SHIPS. With older engines, conversion degrades. Car user manual provides the exact ratio of conversions like the engine designed and tested supposedly provides 1 horse power against every 1.5 c.c. Companies perform many experiments and testing inorder to determine these ratios that’s why correct user manual should always be considered.
Secondly, we are taking about the Physical load not electrical load. You cant make the conversion like horse power into watt conversion like you did. Alternator is one thing and Engine which drives the alternator is yet another stuff. If you will take electric load and will try to make the conversion into engine required then it’s wrong.
Actual load which engine carries here is weight of rotor which spins inside Stator. Rotor is like a free wheel of some xyz mass etc 50 Kg. Any engine can easily rotate that with ease. So now try to find out which engine can easily rotate this load and make it reach an RPM with ease.
Basically You are try to convert electric load into horse power but that has nothing to do with the engines horse power needed to make that “ROTOR of xyz mass SPIN” don’t confuse things.

sir its not just the function of engine to spin the dynmo at a specific speed.when the alternator takes load the magnetic field produced inside the alternator starts to grabbing inner shaft results in more and more load on engine.if its just the function of engine to spin the alternator at frequent speed.then why we cant run 50kw dynmo on 1300cc engine,why we use governor to maintain the engine speed at specific load.if its that simple as ur describing then we can generate lot of power through consuming low energy.

I have a question 10 KVA branded generator has almost double the capacity then 5KVA generator. Right Can you please verify the c.c of engine installed on 5KVA branded generator????

P.S: I need to verify, once magnetic field is produced by Rotor then how much does it grabs the stator and slows it down. I have never thought of this but won’t be answer for couple of days as I am leaving for a tour to Northern Areas of Pakistan for few days.

sir branded generators are mostly diesel above 5kw,else on petrol are chines with darr darr sound and cant run 3 ac.branded generators are so expensive that every one can"t afford.any way experiment it then u realize that i was not wrong.it happens to us thats why according to my knowledge it is difficult.thumbs up to you sir try it.

Glad to know that your project is proceeding successfully. Good Luck. To make your thread more USEFUL for the members pls don't forget to mention a list of all parts & steps with the cost. A pictorial demonstration with complete description shall be very helpful. Otherwise every one knows the market price range from Rs.150000 to 200000. So complete detail of cost shall be useful.

10000VA =220 *I
I= 45 Amps
One 1.5 Ton air conditioner consumes 9A and 12 A in start
Considering 12 Amps in start as reference
12 *3 =36 AMPS, rest 9 AMPS is left
After start up, this figure may go down till 9A
9 * 3=27
Three air conditioners should not be a problem for this unit.

Looks like you have compromise on workmanship and quality of frame material.The wheels are also not rouged enough to bare the vibration and load of a running generator.

      GRABBING FORCE

Once, current passes through Rotor then it produces Magnetic Field. Change in Magnetic Field over conductor produces electromotive force. Once Electromotive force is produced in windings of Stator then it in return produces Magnetic Field which tries to counter the affect of primary Magnetic field from Rotor that’s why rotor tries to grab the stator and tries to slow its self down.

Most of the generators operate at constant RPM, but once we try to extract more power from Alternator then we experience that engine is taking load. Prime reason, for this is that grabbing force is becoming stronger and engine is feeling difficulty maintaining its RPM.

You were right, as I did not take into account the magnetic field produced by Stator. Stators Magnetic Field tries to oppose the Magnetic Field of Rotor. This is what we are referring to as Grabbing force.

Anyway, I think we can install a smart equipment which counters this affect by controlling the Engine Power and RPM or something which tries to step up the RPM under some conditions so that we may not have to use very heavy engines.

This may be a difference between branded and self made generators.
