Hey all

Is there any known issue of cvt in this gen civic? Specially 16/17/18 model??

I am observing a very slight jerk/lag in up/down shifting on my 17 model oriel 1.8. Is that normal or is it only with me? Experts, plz advise. Btw gear change P/R/N/D is ok and smooth. Only observing while driving accelerating/de accelerating.

Also showed this to honda and they took test drive. As per them, there is no issue and its all ok - still i feel this lag/jerk.

Earliest response/guidance will be highly appreciated.

If it is the turbo model then it is due to your throttle body.

I had this problem in my turbo too... and I just realized it is fixed ever since I had the fuel pump replaced when it died.

(Fuel pump story: I took a u-turn and mid turn the car died, it didn't start for the next 10 mins. Went straight to Honda, explained the symptoms and they replaced the fuel pump)

Either ways it could be a sign. Be careful.

BTW.. does your car have like a delayed pick up? You initial press the accelerator at say.. 20km/h.. the revs go up but the car doesn't move until you press a little bit more.. right? Also it kinda jerks when you reduce speed in to the 20-28 km/h range and also when coming to a complete stop?

Its not turbo. Its oriel 1.8.

Well, accelerating response is ok. No delay as such.

So suppose if i am driving at 80 kmph and release the accelerator, i will feel a slight jerk giving that gear is shifting down. Likewise if i am at 20 kmph, and paddle the accelerator, there wont be any delay but a jerk giving feeling that gear is shifting up.

Btw, it doesnot happen always. If i am at high rev, no jerks are felt. Likewise, on low rev/normal drive, jerk is felt 50-60% of times (means jerks are not felt at all and every gear shifts. It usually happens while accelerating/de accelerating). Stops and high speed shifts are smooth.

Jerks could be due to

Fuel
Plugs
Fuel pump

Use Hioctane to see behaviour

Or

Change plugs

Visited honda again today and shared the issue and asked them to take test drive.

They said that this minor shifting jerk is normal and my car is all perfect.

I asked them to change fuel pump as per their recall offer (free fuel pump change) to which they said since car is not having any issue, no need to replace it

Btw, already using 50-50 fuel (hi octane and normal)

So if you want low maintenance and better fuel efficiency then as per my experience Japanese can’t do both at the same time. Following are my suggestions
Go for cultus vxl manual or AGS
Picanto manual (maintenance may be a little bit costly)
And in 660 category alto ags

Happens with me as well, using a 2016 Oriel 1.8 43k driven, CVT fluid not changed till now.

Have changed CVT fluid already in Jan during preodic maintenance.
Total mileage: 14K

If your car's fuel pump is in the list of those recalled by Honda, get it replaced. Even if It is working properly now, who's to blame if you're stranded in the middle of the road because of a faulty fuel pump.

Considering the above example. I'd highly recommend you to visit another 3s dealer and get it re-inspected. I've had a pretty bitter experience with a 3s dealership where they failed to acknowledge an issue just to avoid the hassle they might go through later.

Go for a test drive of cultus AGS then decide. Its gear shift mechanism sucks

buy tu karna hai car k islye pucha. VXL or AGS

Bro try AGS and if u feel okay with it then buy it. Else buy VXL manual. Suzuki has a better resale value and after sales service in small cars segment than any other brand in Pak.

Fuel pump recall is for some cars of 2018 & 2019 model.

The shifting jerk can be also be because of a failing engine or transmission mount as well. Better get it checked and have 2nd opinion from some non-honda mechanic.
