Bro, before taking delivery, the Toyota guy pointed at the ECU and said: "Yeh gari ka computer hai. Agar is main Paani chala gaya tu kharab ho jaye ga aur naya 1 lakh main lagay ga.

I was about to fall but controlled myself Allaah forbid, if some one is washing the car, and water goes in it by accident. I don't want to imagine any thing after that

Oh I did not knew about the worth if my car .. Thank you for informing .. by the way did you read somewhere the effect of installing this cover as it blocks the heat generated by ECO .. so if there is a doubt leave it out .. cheers

Actually, nobody out there is as wise as you are hence people here prefer to cover their ECUs to avoid the risk of water damage(sme people get their cars washed and those cars need water protection as service walas rnt really smart like u , they just pop the hood and splash water or maybe diesel, petrol whatever they like straight at your ecu, yes they are nice at aiming) .
Another factor worth considering is the extreme amount of dust in our environment ; an open ecu lying in your engine bay wouldnt be prety much identifiable after some time& then youl be thinking about washing it with water to clean it.
Moreover, that box also shields your ecu from the extreme amount of heat being produced inside the engine. Most of the 'not so smart pakwheelers' (unlike u)have been installing those boxes in their rollas since 2009 (the earlier model had its ecu near the glove compartment)and please do bring it to my knowledge if some one had a burnt ecu cz of that box. I , on the other hand can narrate lots of stories here where ecus got damaged by water, infact got stolen as well. Oh and tel u what, Toyota guys even gave a proper space to install that box(they werent aware of the heat factor(by ecu) i guess.
You, my friend can choose to keep your car as you wish to but please dont misguide people here. A new Ecu was 90k back in 2012 when i brought my rolla , dont know whats the current price for it.
Cheap boxes are available at local shops for 250 as well, anyone who wants to install em can go for an after market cheaper box.

Sir @nido747, Thanks a lot for sparing your valuable time to post this pic. I am attaching pics of the cover which I bought and my Altis 1.6's ECU. The cover seems of standard size but the grip wiring of ECU has been stretched away from ECU a bit, that's why cover doesn't fit in well:

Nevertheless, I will better return this cover and buy one from Toyota dealership and ask them to fix it, on 1000 KMs inspection.

Toyota is just minting money and nothing else. If they dont do it , who wil pay em 1 lakh for a new Ecu ? This topic has been discussed on PW a number of times. Please go through older threads of PW bro. Cheers , yet again.

lol yes, it has gone childish but writing 'n' in the place of 'and' is just a quicker way to text provided that you are using PW forums through your phone. I dont see how writing an 'O' rather then a 'U'( ECO ----ECU) speeds up your writing mate.

Bhai, hum sigret nahi peetay khair, aap ki auto gli ka sooch kar aap say cover kay bare main pooch liya. Allaah aap kay gaari ki ECU ko sada sehatmand rakhay. Aameen

Lol quite a conversation going on here, I also did not install it , it would have costed 700 rs , but I read on these forums that it causes over heating or ventilation problems of ecu so i left it as it is, I feel there is no use to wash engine with water especially on a brand new car,
Keep a plastic bag (shopper) handy in the trunk and just put that over ecu when washing , there problem solved , no over heating no contact of water with ecu , mind and car both happy

There is no need to install ecu cover.
My swift had ecu on the same place as of corolla.
Whenever i washed the car i just put a plastic shoper on it and other electrical components.
Even many times i washed car without covering ecu.
No issues at all

Guys my Corolla's axle boot is leaked.
5000 driven only by myself only in Lahore and today went for 1st oil change and came to know about this. The warranty guy taken pics and asked me tu check tomorrow as they have to take approval for part change in warranty from head office. A small hole is in the book from where fluid is coming out.

Advice required what parts are to be changed and what to be taken care of

Alhumdulillaah, today test drove Altis 1.6 for some distance, probably 22 KMs, which included paved and unpaved roads both on stock tyres, and felt good en-bloc. The acceleration was very smooth and the orthodox jerks used to be felt on auto tranny were minimal. The car went to 100 KM/hr in no time. Sadly IMC went very cheap in over all plastic quality of interior, especially the quality of left and right indicators. Even my Suzuki Wagon R VXL (Indonesia made, assembled in Pakistan) had better quality plastic used in interior than that used in Corolla. Navigation worked well, and blue tooth worked fine with my android based cell phone. One thing that made me happy was the performance of brakes. They are super responsive, though the car has hardly run 32 KMs, I avoid using emergency brakes. I am also not taking the car above 100 KM/hr, will do so after it has run 400-500 KMs. My advice to any one going for GLI auto would be to wait for some more time, collect some moola and go for Altis 1.6. If you are a filer, then difference in WHT between 1.3 and 1.6 is merely 20K, and becoming a filer has never been that easy as today, courtesy online e-filing system introduced by FBR. Rest assured it's worth the marginal cost and would make you satisfied with your decision in the long run, In shaa Allaah. Regards
