125cc engine tuning? suzuki DRZ125

Salam,
I just helped a friend buy a 2005 suzuki drz125L. It runs sluggish and slower than a cd70, What should I be tuning to get it to run good? Its engine architecture seems very similar to that of a Honda CG125

The fuel in the tank was a year old. I changed the fuel, ran some seafoam and the engine runs better and idles fine but it has no top end power and more bottom end power than mid range power.

I have riden some faster than stock CG125s in lahore which were running on stock parts only. Im wondering if anyone knows what people tune in order to get these engines running good. I will be changing the air filter, engine oil, spark plug, and oil filter. I dont know if the valves have ever been adjusted or even how to adjust them. I will try tuning the carburettor later. Should I be looking at anything else?

The engine starts on the first kick most of the time and sometimes the second kick. I do hear some metallic knocking while kicking sometimes (I hope its not the piston hitting the valves).

Take it to a suzuki centre near you. It's the same engine as our GS150. They'll know what to do.

on a side note roshan. where did you get the sea foam from?

I am in Mississauga, Canada so you can get seafoam here for about $10. I hear its just very pure petrol (without additives or something) so it helps clean the engine... I dno if its true, thats what I heard.

Here in Canada, minimum wage is about $11 an hour. We bought the DRZ125L for $1000 so we do not intend to spend over $200 (dealerships here will charge more than that for sure) on a tune up at the dealership which is why we are doing it ourselves

but yea, It would be great if anyone could let me know what people usually tune?
I dont think I need to change the carb jets as its the stock engine and except filters, fluids and valve adjustment I can not think of anything.

OP this is my third DR-125 and believe me these engine are sluggish and underpowered especially for me as i own an XT600 and a TDR250 so if you want more power you have to swap engine to a bigger one probably a dr200,250 gn250 or something like that will probably work for you!

yea... the drz125 isnt my bike... Im used to riding my kx250f and fzr600, I expected the drz125 to be almost as fast as a cg125 as its lighter but it doesnt seem like it at all. The carb clogged up so we took the carb off... Will attempt to clean it soon
