Sir you have an uncanny ability to read my mind. In other countries it is mandatory to have a high mount brake light. That will be the next job (improvement).

what if you use leds as capsat suggested and cover then using a cloth or something that doesn't block much light but also scatters it and makes the led array shine like one bright light.

@capsat thank you for sending the pics of the LEDs above. I have never seen this type of setup. Nice. As already mentioned earlier, I am inclined to try out the reflector idea. With that in mind today I went and got a reflector of a Honda CD70 motorcycle indicator and back light. Pic below:

Tomorrow I'll remove the entire rear light set up from the car and see how I can proceed. Stay tuned :D. From the looks of it, the bigger reflector of the two will work.

Instead of reposting the rear light setup it can be seen on page 12 of this thread in post #226 where I addressed the faded lens of the left rear parking light.

Below are pictures of the rear light/number plate assembly on my work table and other pics detailing the light in question.

My failed LED alteration is seen here. the LED wires are soldered to the bulb elements. In this way no alteration was need to the original bulb holder.

Here I have place the normal incandescent bulb in its holder and you can see there is no reflector behind any of the lights:o

Now the next step will be to alter the Honda CD70 brake light reflector to fit nicely in the space behind the brake light bulb

Thanks for the offer Arsalan Sb. Got it in my tool box. If you closely at the picture of the CD70 reflectors above, I have applied it to the smaller reflector

So far the CD70 reflector has been trimmed to fit the space behind the brake light. Next action is to see that the entire assembly (with new reflector) can fit properly in the car i.e. it does not bind with the other components behind the light. The reflector will be finalized after test fitting the assembly to the car.

Your suggestion is duely noted. On another note, WOW that is one beautiful motor bike. I wonder why the owner has decided to part with it. He certainly has loved it over the years.

Fitted back the rear light cluster/number plate assembly and tested the intensity of the light. It seems that the light with reflector is much brighter compared to the LED setup I did earlier. I took the picture below, It seems that the bright light has overwhelmed by cell phone camera. I took a few pics, all of them turned out similar to the one below. The actual light is pretty bright.

Certainly, perhaps better to buy the complainant a white stick. I have been thinking of installing a high mount brake light. That, however, will be a bit more difficult. There is a spring loaded roller blind that, once deployed, is pretty close to the rear glass leaving almost no gap for the high mount light. I will have to see if I can get a very narrow light. Tall order. Anyway I'll see what is a available in the marked. Here is picture of the curtain deployed. The material is translucent. Traffic behind can be seen through the material.

After many days I was able to take the car out to test the brakes. Testing the brakes revealed both good and some not so good things. There is no more groaning noises from the brakes. The car comes to a stop quietly. However, the braking distances were longer than earlier. My view is that the new brake linings need to be broken in. The situation is similar to when new discs are fitted in a modern car. The car's braking improves over the next 100 or so Km. So same as in the case of modern cars, this car needs to be driven rigorously for 50 miles with frequent hard braking. I think this will improve over time with driving.

you need to burnish the brakes a bit - in your car - best get it rolling downhill and gently apply the brakes to just a little before bite point, this will cook the brakes to burnish some friction coal on them that is required for effective braking.

Precisely. Today's drive was to get a feel for the new oil in the shocks, plus, the new brakes. I feared that the new BMW hydro-pneumatic shock oil might not suit the car resulting in firming up the ride. Shocks performed great - ride was just right. Another reason for the drive today was that I hadn't driven the car for almost a month. I make it a point to exercise the car once a week. Next job will be to go for a longish drive and burnish and bed in the brakes.
