what do you think happens when the "raddi and kabaar merchant" buys old newspapers by the kg? You think he stores them somewhere paak and saaf?

The best way to clean these wheels is to get the All purpose cleaner that margallar mentions, a good workbench and some brushes - then finish off with a powerwasher.

Abbasi sb, the grease you need for these wheels is plenty available in Pakistan sold as MP grease, This car has very cool running hubs and yes I know the hubs are not sealed up. A good NLGI-3 thickness lithium soap heavy grease will work.

I believe the original grease was sodium based with hemp fibres mixed in it. It was also sold by AMC (manf of JEEP) a real long time ago, that grease is extremely tacky and when you try to separate it with your fingers it bridges. Amsoil and redline make similar high load bearing greases that refuse to be squeezed out even under hammering load of loader bucket pins etc.

Naqvi Sb. the issue of grease leakage is a result of years and years of incorrect lubrication by the guys at the service station. When the car used to be taken for a wash and lube job the fellows used to remove the chromed spinners and fill the void with grease (fist fulls) in an attempt to lubricate the wheel bearings. As the car was driven, due to centrifugal force the grease oozed out of the central hub and ended up caked on the spokes etc.

For the purpose lubricating the wheel bearings a grease nipple (zerk) is provided behind the brake back plate visible after removal of the wheel and sticking the head in the wheel arch. All that is required is two pumps from the grease gun every few thousand miles. I have removed 99 % of the "extra" grease and the instance of oozing grease has reduced to almost nothing but the car that sits for months between cleaning, the grease does show up especially on the lower half of the hub. I am thinking eventually it will stop oozing once there is no more grease.

If the grease was not an issue, painted wheels are pretty easy to clean with the dish washing liquid, though time consuming with the hassle of wheel removal each time. Will give 3m apc a try. I hope it is not caustic based. That will not be good.

you guys should try the 3m apc, that stuff is great for engine bays, fabrics and plastics, you just have to dilute it depending on the type of crud you need to remove

Paint stripper is not all what is claimed of it. Right now at this time I have two brands of pain stripper lying in my tools store. One is imported and the other local. The imported one is better than the local stuff. Even with paint stripper, once applied you still have to work the surface with a scarper and emery paper to get to the bare metal.

Paint stripper is great for open flat surfaces where a paint scraper can be used after application of stripper.

I saw a video in which the paint stripper worked exactly like its advertised. I mean the paint quite literally lifted off the bonnet. He used a plastic spatula and was able to remove paint in a few light swipes..... just like a dream. However in the very same video he said and even show examples where paint stripper didnt work as well as it did in the case of that bonnet.

A very good tip that guy gave in the video is that usually people complain that paint stripper always leave a few unfinished patches. Thing is as the stripper is applied it breaks downs the paint's binding agent and the paint bubbles up and actually "rise" upward creating a gap between the paint and the body. This gap stops the reaction between the stripper and the paint and sometimes leave patches of paint left on the body. To overcome that what he did was after the paint has risen...... he simply used a paint brush to flatten the paint back on the body to keep the reaction going. He said..... if it doesnt remove the paint it means you havent applied enough stripper on it

As I have already fitted a new tire to the spare wheel and painted, plus, also refitted the spare wheel tray, I set about refitting the spare back into its place.

Things did not go as per plan. The spare wheel with its newly mounted tire will not go into the space it is supposed to go into. After much pushing and "kushti" I gave up and did some investigation.

Here is what I found out. See the picture below. The spare wheel tray rests on the two chassis members indicated by the yellow and green arrows. I have drawn two horizontal red lines for reference. If you look closely at the chassis member indicated by the green arrow, it is not straight. There is a bow in middle of about 3/4". I think in the past the car was lifted from this point using a floor jack. Due to this bow the spare wheel tray sits too close fuel tank and to the space is not enough to accommodate the tire.

So now this chassis member has to be straightened before I can proceed to the next job.

100% correct. But there is no place to swing the hammer in there. I was thinking of using a "come-along" or a 1 ton chain block. Today being Monday, I'll see what is possible.

a porta power with a sort of reverse jig would work, or a chain block anchored to the bottom of a service pit. tie it to the member, support the sides and crank it.

Much easier way is to go to the same shop that painted your car and ask if they have a "chassis straightening jig" they can apply force in any direction you please.

Exactly what was going through my mind. Today (Monday) has been awful weather wise. Raining heavily all day same is the forecast tomorrow. Will have to wait for the weather to clear up. The shop that did my painting had some fabulous equipment but due to loss of interest by the original owner it has folded and closed its doors. They had all sorts of jacks and chains to pull a chassis straight. They even had a pulling system to straighten double skinned panels without cutting and chopping. Anyhow no worries. Next three days its going to be wet.

Naqvi Sb. looks like you have your work cut out;). The work you have in front of you can be done in a covered shop. I on the other hand, will have to brave a downpour in a 65 year old car :o with marginal wipers.

The weather forecast was wrong. Today turned out to be a cool sunny day and I went about the business of finding a place that could sort out the chassis. Found one fellow who promises the moon. I am a bit sceptical but if it holds out tomorrow I take the old girl to his workshop as agreed with him. In preparation for the job tomorrow, the spare tire tray was removed once again.

Some of the pakwheeles (@faisalayub, @capsat and @yasira) offered their valuable suggestions on the design of the spare wheel cover. I went down to my poshish walla and picked up the cover and since the spare wheel tray is out, I thought to post the following picture so the guys can get an idea of what I was trying to do.

Thank you Faisal Sb. Picture will be posted as you have requested but I don't know what you hope to see. It will be the same picture minus the tray:). A picture was posted in post number 138 on page 7 show just the wheel. By the way, the design of wheel cover proposed by you was very nice but this simple I got made does the job quite nicely. As you can see, the metal strap secures the cover and prevents dust from getting in.

Abbasi bhai basically I want to see that the wheel cover is made simple or just like a pocket with zipper. As you already mentioned seems to be its the normal one. kahir jo bhi hy, main thing is the purpose of making cover is fulfilled. By the way by seeing your wheel cover idea am also planning for wheel cover for my cressida..
