I have a slightly different opinion.
Then again its my personal opinion only based on what Ive noticed. I think the General tyres are of a slightly higher profile than standard bug tyres. What I mean to say, in simple terms, is that a General item would be a bit more tall or have a slightly larger diameter than the Continental it replaced.
Ive noticed that, a brand new General with deep treads does not fit to most bugs' spare wheel well, while a worn out with half the tread or less does. Just my personal observation on several bugs Ive seen.
Then again, Im not 100% sure for my own daily driver 68 has a whacked nose and I cant use that as a yardstick......... I keep a half worn tyre as a spare, the ones on the car do not fit in there......
