I can send you one but really take a piece of rubber tube, draw a pattern using the lens as a template and cut carefully..You have a seal...The function of the seal is to..well, seal and it would do nicely. Its going to be tucked away under the lic. plate light cover so other than a few thousand people following this thread, who would ever know?

:o This was exactly the suggestion I had in mind. Interesting that we are giving band aid solutions (A). However what we suggest shall never lead to failure of any crucial area on the car, that is our guarantee!!

Sometimes we do need to improvise on some areas where one can skimp until we have the right thing, which might be months and years down the line.

You were absolutely right, the front clip after inspection reveals that there was an impact/repair on the right side as well which I hadn't really noticed before. Here are some pictures;

And from the looks of it, it seems that we would be needing a front clip replacement at some stage soon. What say you?

That would be a smart thing to do. No matter how well a panel beater tries its almost impossible to remove the wrinkles in the area.

Should i start looking for a front clip ?

Clearly the car has had an impact from the right side and has been repaired as the channel for the decklid seal shows. You can further confirm this by looking at the inside walls of the spare wheel well. The only two options you have are to have it pulled out in the least invasive manner or replace it with a clean front clip

I have a slightly different opinion.

Then again its my personal opinion only based on what Ive noticed. I think the General tyres are of a slightly higher profile than standard bug tyres. What I mean to say, in simple terms, is that a General item would be a bit more tall or have a slightly larger diameter than the Continental it replaced.

Ive noticed that, a brand new General with deep treads does not fit to most bugs' spare wheel well, while a worn out with half the tread or less does. Just my personal observation on several bugs Ive seen.

Then again, Im not 100% sure for my own daily driver 68 has a whacked nose and I cant use that as a yardstick......... I keep a half worn tyre as a spare, the ones on the car do not fit in there......

I vote this gets repaired. And that too is not an immediate requirement.

On another note, even when we have found a front clip, getting it across is the challenge due to its size. Isn't it? Or you have something on your mind?

May be @AsadIshaque could help us here a little? Since recently a couple of pre-66s were butchered at shershah KHI. What say you @AsadIshaque? Any possibility of finding a front clip here in Pakistan?

Maybe Nasir bhai should start looking. But what about the freight and all overheads involved?? Not to mention the extreme difficulty in transporting it locally in Canada itself.

You cant find very clean metal in Karachi. You need lady luck to be crazy enough for you to sleep with for that

Someone has already asked me to locate a pre 67 front clip and Ive asked a few contacts to source. Usually the scrap yard guys dont keep front or rear clips as they take up a lot of space which they dont have. Also they have to instruct the butchers to take out extra time to make a clean cut on the body. And then they ask you to be present there while the car is being scrapped and transport the stuff away there and then. And pay through your nose too!

That said, Lady Luck did smile (or Id say went bananas over me ) as I was sourced a 1960 vintage front clip for my 59 ragtop project. In all honesty, I had never thought being in Pakistan Id have that part for the 59 and was ready to settle for a 1961-67 item. I did pay an arm and a leg for the clip but Im a happy camper.

I am looking and I hope will find something in California. Since we are not in a rush to have it shipped we'll go for the cheapest option - Greyhound bus cargo (like Daewoo cargo). they ship whenever they have spare room in the bus cargo bays so you are not guaranteed an arrival date but it usually gets there in a week to 2 weeks depending on the distance but they are less expensive compared to the others. getting it to Pakistan maybe a challenge but that's the fun of it...

The spare wheel of Patina is almost new and has a deep tread and its only by cms that it doesn't get in the well. I guess I can try loosing some pressure and fitting it in the well, would that help?

Might be worth a try to check.

If you have any worn spares lying around, try those. Maybe even off the 70 bug?

@Reezvaan. No it is not! It is the switch I bought for your bug yesterday. Yours is a three wire unit. Right? The piece of the steering rod and the outer pipe come with the switch as it was hacked by some redneck with a power saw. Its good in a way as you never know how he would have screwed up with a screw driver. This way you get all the washers and even the grommet and the OG copper spring
