"Now then, about 19K miles, I am not sure if these numbers are genuine but then there are evidences, both historical as well as logical that these numbers might be the genuine mileage of the car. Here is why;
The first owner was a navy seal in KHI in early days of car, who passed onto the vehicle to a friend who brought it to ISL by road. And held onto this car like a baby until the car passed to his nephew who happened to be a reporter in a "The Daily Muslim" Islamabad for 18 yrs. and who later assumed the profession of a homeopeth (the last possessor from whom I acquired the car - owner remains the same second fella who brought the car from KHI).
This homeopeth fella, by no means seemed to have a position to afford the running/maintenance/fuel costs normally thought to be associated with Volkswagen (which are not actually true - not at least in case of this subject 1200cc as it covered 731 KMs from ISL to MUX for a mere fuel quantity of 43.67 LTRs. when I drove her home. Unbelieveable??? Shocked??? I was too but thats true) and he most of the times kept the car parked outside his quarters in the open in a dead end street which was only 500-700 Meters from the place he had his clinic. So I guess he was not much of the car runner either, especially with all amenities of life right in front of his quarters (Aabpara market)."
@Reezwaan. If the previous owner worked at the Muslim newspaper then he didn't use it to go to his work place either. The office of the now closed The Muslim was not more than 500 m. from the place the car was parked all these years.
The original BOGE shock absorbers also indicate that the car was not driven a lot unless the owner did not care about the ride quality.
However i think the speedometer has turned over at least once given the general condition of the interior. Time alone cannot produce the kind of wear and tear that I notice in the pictures and if we can establish that the seat covers were replaced then it would be almost certain that the mileage may be 119 k if not more.
I would like to add that its not unusual to see VW's in good condition with 200 to 300k kms on the clock. The cars have a reputation of clocking crazy mileage if looked after well.
