Here are a few shots of all the gunk covering the uninstalled fuel tank on the outer side:

I wouldn't try and clean that gunk for now..it may spring a fuel leak as soon as it is cleaned using anything even mildly abrasive. I am going to order some POR 15 stuff for fuel tanks which may be the ultimate solution. Until then I suggest you put up with the gunk that has been protecting (of sorts) the metal.

Thanks @nmshaikh. Sometimes I really wonder how could we repay you with gratitude to find us what we have looked so desperately.

Yet to have the rubber seals to go under the housings though and ofcourse a matching Hella lense too for the other housing as the one shown above.

UPDATE 25 July 2011..found the other one too..its a different colour but appears grey or something under the black spray. Not sure if its the other side or the same. You can use the lens and reflector if nothing else.

Have been laying down under the front end of Patina. Started off with uninstallation of the two "threaded" tie rod ends on the short arm of the front suspension but unfortunately when I had loosened one (Steering box one) and tried to loosen the one on the spindle, I realized that the nut on this one was moving free and it wasn't being loosened.

What do I do now? Any ideas on how to get rid of the "free nut" on the spindle side end or any end for that matter? The idea was to remove the arm and then replace the two ends on both sides with the NOS ones that I have in stash. I tried striking the end itself upwards and it didn't work...Pictures (Culprit in the last pic):

The ball of the tie rod end is probably worn quite a bit. (I wouldn't be surprised if you have greased the ends too) and is now spinning freely in the socket. You may want to insert a large flat head screw driver between the flange and the base of the end and apply pressure to push the ball against the roof of the socket. Meanwhile douse the nut in some WD 40. If that does not work, you may need to apply a few calculated blows with a hammer on the "floor" of the tie rod end. This would raise the base, constricting the socket and limiting the movement of the ball. If all else fails, grab a welding torch..I don't think it would come to that but these are probably your options.

I don't see the lock pin in the pictures..maybe just the angle of the picture but pls. double check. The pins were included in the box I think.

nice job
