you can buy cosmoline in Karachi - it is very tough and needs to be heated first before applying - once done you are set, its mostly used for marine applications.

all german cars have this. my Golf had it too and all german cars Ive repaired or serviced had it. and yes the case is magensium - thats why it glows white when you see a bug on fire. (shab-baraat was the market for busted up magnesium pieces from VWs)

marriot road market Karachi, and you need to cook it first to make it thin and tacky only then can it be applied evenly, never use too much as it becomes blobby. It gives a nice sheen to the surface too. The surface you are applying it to requires to be surgically clean though otherwise it peels.

but I want to ask - why are you applying it again? most people are interested in taking it off. If you have a freind that collects old guns etc, he will surely know of it.

that would do nicely - as the tranny lives under the car anyways the cosmolene would protect it - Do you have any arms dealers in Multan? - ask them for it.

after blasting it I would carefully scrub it down with a very soft cleaner (citrus based) and then remove the bolts and galvanise them golden again, install them back and apply your cosmolene - voila brand new transmission case.

btw that should be standard practice anyway, I just tie up all nuts and bolts into wire and bag them - hand over for galvanising and end up with new looking bolts and nuts - adds considerable eye candy to the job. And being a german vehicle it sports Kamax fasteners - all the better.

locations of;

1- brake switch - on the tip of master cylinder (located under the fuel tank)

2- temperature switch/gauge - three possible locations, while the best location for the oil temperature gauge is at the oil pump (if you are a free flow case with a bushing), next best is a sender (that goes into the oil pressure relief valve if you are a dual relief case), and lastly at the oil sump plate.

please do not confuse temperature switch/gauge with oil pressure switch/gauge.

3- reverse light switch (back up light switch) - on the transmission casing.
