Anything But Car ABC
Jazakallah Khyr Actually after commenting I saw nasir's name at the bottom...he already knows me and my car Will have a look at my lappy if I have some pics and will upload for sure
And about the denter...thts true, its all about the person supervising the job i.e. the Workshop owner. Keep it coming brother but plz try to avoid blurry pics "Sara maza kharab ho jata hy"
I like your attention to detail. It is very important to do this if you do not want to return to the same task again in six months time. May I suggest you also explore powder coating option for parts that are exposed to water spray and splashes. Another thing to remember is that you are the one paying for the work hence the boss. You should be in the driving seat and directing and not let the mechanic lead the restoration. They are usually keen to take shortcuts. Don't let them.
Thanks Nasir bhai for the comments. In this restoration its the workshop owner who is not a mechanic or painter but a technically gifted person and a phd by qualification. His other qualification wrt vw is that he took delivery of his vw directly from wolfsburg factory drove it approx 100,000 miles in switzerland and then drove it to pakistan. He has the wwest delivery challan and invoices to proudly show off. His motto is that no matter what quality in restoration needs a level of donkey work and then jokingly says that I am the biggest of them.
That said till now the route taken has been that all parts related front rear suspension were literally scraped to bare metal then red oxide primer applied and left to dry for couple of days and then covered with a couple of coats of black paint and left to dry for almost 30 hours. after installation these will be re sprayed after appropriate taping to cover tool marks. Powder coating was not done as reliable powder coating was to my knowledge not available. I have used powder coating on my 69 but only on engine tinware. Will the process that we have followed be good enough in your opinion. Or shall I disinstall the parts scrape them and have them powder coated?
there are lots of powder coating guys in lalukhet, karimabad, golimar, site, garden, pak colony etc - they are the same folks who are finishing the steel frame beds that are sold nowadays.
Sothe question is should I still go for powder coating or the process that I mentioned is good enough. If necessary which parts should I necessarily go for powder coating.
