@cateyez: Beautiful 40 you have there sir.. Did you have some kind of lift added to it?
@sikandermasood1: Sure. I will be glad to share all I have learned in restoring it so far. I c that you are in Islamabad so wont be able to help with mechanic search. If in Lahore, I can point out some for you.
Well... the story of my FJ40 restoration has been halted due to a stubborn carburetor who wont budge to the adjustments! It runs smooth on idle. But today when we put it on road for the first time, it started missing on slow speeds. The surprise was that when we would floor the pedal, it will again behave perfectly but like in 2nd gear going slow at around 20kph, it won't stop doing 'patakh patakh'... indicating that the fuel was not being fed as it should and it was eating up more air rather than the right fuel and air mixture.
We changed the jet valves, cleaned the others, re-tuned the engine tappets, re tuned the distributor, not to mention the adjustment screws and still it won't budge. So I am looking for a new carburetor for my rig. Reminded me about the advice I received only a week back from "hsumbal1" when he visited Bao's Body Shop and said, "your 2F will give problems with the carburetor". At that time I thought, well I have put every part new in it, but today his wise words kept resounding in my head.
Anywho, after 2 power steering pump replacements, one has been fitted right and power steering is a relief at least. So now the action plan is to halt the mechanical work as all systems have been tested right, go ahead and finish the paint job, move the rig to my home and wait for the new carburetor to arrive.
Got some pics in the meantime..
The front hood insulation has been installed

Well then, the hood has been mounted as well. So are the door handles, window glasses, channels, locks, rear view mirrors and wipers.

Desperately looking for carburetor gurus in Lahore region now. People running their FJ40s with the original 2F please help ! I know you guys are looking at these pages
