My father has owned this car since beginning of 2014, got it from Army auction in surprisingly good condition. It had its original 4A-FE engine and the odo read around 400,000 Kms back then. Due to being well maintained during its life in the Army (and afterwards) it is still surviving. Now that my father has bought another car, he was thinking of disposing this one off, but quite frankly I could sense that he didn't want to. So naturally, he thought I should keep it and who am I to say no?
Fast forward 2 great years this reliable car has given, now its mileage is more than 500,000. And the engine is starting to become problematic. We thought that instead of spending money repeatedly on repairs, why not just swap a new engine. We wanted a trouble-free car and since my father has owned a corolla 2.0D for 8 years he has always been a fan of diesel. He somehow convinced me to go along as well. We opted for the newer and more economical 3C EFI diesel engine. Hence began a father son project. Some pics of the car when it had the old engine:
