1HD-T 24 Valve in a FJ40

I have a FJ 40 converted to a 3B but believe it is under powered thinking of installing a 1HDT from a 80 series with an auto gear box

Comments/ Suggestions / Advise ?

1kz with auto is better option.
Cheaper as well, and will get you all the power u need.

1HDT with auto transmission is fuel guzzler, heavy on maintenance.

1KZ as recommended is far better choice, economical on maintenance.
easy & cost effective for overhaul recent rebuilt for LM147 Hilux 4x2 truck is approx. Rs. 225000 including diesel pump overhaul, all OEM new parts clutch kit included.

Transmission was swapped for Rs. 25000 extra because it was full of water (yes water with only traces of oil)

Thank you for the reply and suggestion, just a question - 1KZ don't you think will be a little under-powered for a vehicle that came with a 2F (4.2 L).from the factory,

Well yes 1hdte is good choice as everyone goes for 1kz swap so it's possible enough to swap 1hdte.
1kd 2kd is also a good option if not going for 1kz.

Not really. 1kzte is a newer generation engine pulling more torque and hp then 2f used to produce.
So it won't be a under power problem at all. In easy words it would have more than sufficient power to drag fj40.

There are more experienced people here but I do have some interest and just putting my thoughts out there as well.
I do have a fj40 as well with a 2B
I had the same plans but some mechanics told me that for 1hd you might have to change the differentials as well. You should be considering the fuel economy as well ,might not give you more than 7km/l
Where as 1kd and 2kd are high maintenance engines
Going to northern areas which usually don't have a standard quality fuel ,the injectors are going to get messed up and that issue is very expensive!
If you want to really enjoy,no doubt 1HD's power is unmatched !
