the yellow wire you talk about is the reference voltage from the ECU, its shared by the map and the TPS. Anyways - You should first hook up some LED or bulb to the W pin as I mentioned and ground the TE1 pin with a test lamp to see what codes are you getting.
If the someone was so genius enough not to wire the IAT I believe he also forgot this engine uses a 4 wire O2 sensor too.
