1st start of the day issue

Aoa guys,

Its been a while since i posted anything on Pakwheels. Back in 2008 its was a healthy addiction. None the less I have been away for so long and seem to have pretty much forgotten the ins and outs of mechanical side of cars.

Some of you might be knowing my white 86 charade. Lately there seems to be a 1st start of the day issue. It was mostly parked and sparingly used as 4th car from 2015 till 2019. Now this new issue has risen.

If i do not start her within 12 hours. I have to pump up the fuel via accelerator pedal or pour fuel in the carb in worst case scenario. After that a missing issue occurs for a few minutes as if one of the spark plugs is dead. She sails smoothly after 5-10 minutes and starts on half self as long as its within in an average of 12 hours.

I have serviced the carb twice and once in front of my own eyes where the mechanic praised it is "like new". The issue still persists. I am assuming it could be spark plug wires . Someone suggested getting the fuel lines serviced, oil pump or /and fuel pump serviced.Lets hear expert respond back.

Wondering if my old buddies @storm and zulfikar can see this post and reply back along with the other knowledgeable pakwheelers.

Petrol mixture is set to very lean in order to get a better mileage. If you can live with that do not disturb the mixture or else increase petrol ratio. Cold start become better and you will get even more pleasurable drive but at a cost of less mileage.

The mixture seems to be a little high on rpm which was set since 2015 when the engine got its last overhaul.The mileage seems to be on moderate level nothing very fancy 10km avg on high octane. it used to be fantastic 14-15 back in 2015.

What do you feel about the following factors:

Fuel line cleaning
Fuel pump /filter replacement
Plug wire replacement

The drive over all is very smooth though tires need replacement and the front left shock has to be changed. Shes been with us since 1986 Alhumdulillah clean for her age.

I have noticed , the roads of Karachi have become pretty barren after the fuel hike. This in turn makes a big difference in fuel economy an test of patience.

sir the carb needs overhaul kit. *
the pump / plunger has dried out and fuel evaporate away that's why you need to pump pedal few times before start. after prolonged parking.

boss the carb has been checked and serviced twice and has found to be in perfect shape. The fuel pump issue makes sense. Pumping the pedal few times would not be a viable solution .

Any idea how much would a fuel pump and filter change cost with labour

Sir, is the carb genuine or after-market?
Does it start with the chock in the morning if you don't give pedals?
How did the mechanic serviced it? Did he clean all the fuel lines?

The problem might be the carb, fuel pump and pipes, distributor, distributor coil.
I had the same issue in alto-12. It was pain in the ass. No one could resolve it. The cause was after-market carby. However, it could be other things too. The car was seriously abused by the previous f*ckng owner.

Bro, I am also in the same scenario, my car is behaving exactly as yours. Car needs valve repair work even then it has an excellent drive, I have to pump fuel (accelerator paddle pushes).

To resolve this issue mechanic increased the fuel ratio at an optimum level and the engine became more responsive with easy cold start (fuel avg at 10).

Currently fuel mixture is set to little lean not much n I am now getting 11.5 - 12 km/liter.

I think there is no need to disturb the carb itself because your have said that once engine warm up the car is running excellent.

Beside this clean the silencer pipe (tail end) and drive 30 40 kms with low and higher speeds and check again if there is carbon deposits, deposits are dry or oily.

genuine original carb since we got the car new in 1986. It is clean and in good shape. I have replaced the fuel pump with a chinese electric one. The matter is still unresolved fully though now she runs fine on a a daily start with no pumping. Till i get a good condition used pump i will have to do with this one
