1zz-fe is it destroyed beyond repair?

AOA,
So my Altis 2007 engine (1zz-fe) got toasted. over heated AND got shut off on the way to hydr-abad around Eid .
My mechanic said it can not be repaired in any sufficient way to be usable and I should buy a new(kabli) one from the market. I have a good offer , the engine looks nice but the price is high (120K around with all the SAMAN) I am planing to buy it with all the stuff so that I can have spare-parts for the future. I really like this one and kind of want to keep it for next 4,5 years even more . I know it is old etc etc and I can afford to buy a new one ,but I like the car have done 110K on it and I want to keep it for next 5,6 years more at least.
so I am attaching the images of the engine block . question is , it is really a lost case ? should I go for swap ? even if I swap should I just keep the old engine just for a side project and rebuild it ?

Ehhh . Long story. I bought it some time ago . the person who had it LIED to me . the engine was damaged already a bit and they had changed the gas-kit once . so clearly it was OVER HEATED , infect I am accepting my stupidity lol. the fan was direct and he was using tap water in radiator, I think that should have been a red flag for me . but I kept the car for some time and really loved it . that is why I am planing to put in the new engine and keep it for a few more years.
Even when I try to confront people like this they say "bhai ap na daikh k lana tha blaa bla bla or gari to market man aysa he sale hoti hay , jo hay jahan hay ki buniyad pa " etc etc . anyways sab na apni apni qabar man jana hay . I dont regret anything . just wanted to know if this can be repaired any ways?

Tap water or gaskit change doesnt necessarily mean the engine bloc is cooked. Get opinion from 3-4 reputed mechanics before making such a big decision. I personally feel the bloc is fine. Get it cleaned and get it fixed. Service the radiator and pour in coolant. Swaped engine sounds charming but it has its own problems. My humble suggestion ; get this engine fixed unless the bloc is damaged which doesnt happen with simple overheat, only happens if engine oil drains or some mech breakage occurs

I had a 2006 model alto which used to overheat every second day i used to let it cool and drive away. After around 6-7 months i decided to get the problem fixed. When the mech disassembled the engine bloc was absolutely fine

Perfect !!!! I am definitely looking into that . thank you . that is why I said that if the engine looks fine even if I swap it , I might still keep the old stuff and rebuild it as a project. just wanted some expert opinion that dose it still look fine or salvageable ?

Take it to proper mechanic who knows how to manage and face heads... This is not that of a big job. Unless your pistons, cylinders, crank are intact, and the block it self is not cracked you don't need to change the engine ..

Using tap water instead of coolant. Wish i had the pics of my alto. The mech who disassembled the engine was in shock he couldnt believe the engine was in running condition. He kept asking me “ ap n gari k sath kia kya ha” it was my second car. Sold it a few months later

only cho&%&% class crook will not repair this engine.

1ZZ-FE is very common toyota engine and all OEM new parts are available. do not swap simply go for rebuild and keep the car.

scrapyard engine has no history., nobody knows which variant it has come out from, how much beating it has taken and for how long it is with scrapyard rusted.

when you rebuild the engine you have:

1. peace of mind for its history
2. as owner you can manage its timely maintenance
3. there will be no endorsement of engine number on registration book

and you can use it for another 100,000 kms with peace of mind just by maintenance.

What's wrong with block is it cracked anywhere get a second option on the block. If the block is useable rebuild it

This block is not usable, there is no metal left on the cylinder liner area, the headgasket will never seal. Im suspecting the head will be this bad too.

Get a new engine and tear it down to reseat the valves, check tappets, clean oil pump pickup etc.

The block can be welded back to spec if you have a correct machinist. Make sure the surface of the block is smooth as glass though. But the head will be trashed too, so thats an additional expense.

This is why you always have to use the correct coolant/water ratio in the engine

I totally agree with Xulfiqar sir. Finding a machinist who can do it for you is another task. Majority of them will make more problems for you. Going for a newer engine is the best option. Try to get engine if you find a cut piece. Those are pretty less driven.

@Xulfiqar sir a bit off topic: which coolant is more preferable? Toyota long life coolant or havoline xtended life? Does both of them have similar composition?

havoline as its lower cost and works super. - make sure the coolant charge is 50% concentrated, not less not more.

and everything should be very clean.

Thank you soo much sir for taking out the time and looking into it in detail.
But I have a question . Why not just find a engine with respectively better condition , check if valves etc are working fine and just use that . why should we tear it down and why should we expect that the head will be in bad condition for that too? I am sorry if I am not understanding you properly you may call me naive but I may have not understood your message properly for this part

Why are you suggesting tearing down the new one ?

Also sir if you could just make an educated guess , what could do this to the engine ? just using tap water ? or having a very OFF mix of co0leant and water? I have seen people using tap water for 200K or way over it and nothing like this happens! I am just trying to find out what previous owner might have done with it .

I sorry if I didnt put the right grammar,

the welding part is for this old engine - and its head, which will be corroded.

The tear down part is for a replacement engine sourced from scrap, as it will be old and used, dont trust it as "buy and drop in" - there is a reason that engine is in the scrapyard in Pakistan. - Its wishful thinking assuming that it will be perfect.

so thats why before install, remove and inspect everything in it before installing.

this corrosion happens when you use brackish water (khaara pani) in the engine, the block erodes away as you see here, Always use a coolant mix in the cooling system no matter how hard the mechanic tries to sell you on "dumm ka pani coolant"
