For heaven's sake, if the Corollas produce 177ps they should be running along sides of 20v's. haroon131 says they produce 79ps. And isn't the 2.0D something like 52 or so hp? I think I saw that figure in the brochure.

some people are used to roughness of old engines and lack of it in modern engine gives them the psychological feeling of low engine power. Sound effect play a lot of role in driving dynamic. Just as slapping a big fart cannon on 800cc FX can rush teenage adrenalin into belive of driving a ferrari

For practical reasons, buy a 3C Turbo. I have both 3C-E and 3C-T in two different coronas. the 3C-E is smooth and has excellent response as far as acceleration is concerned (it has an Electronic Throttle Control - No accelerator cable, just sensors in the accelerator pedal) but the 3C-Turbo is much faster. The 3C-EFI also needs specialized mechanics while the 3C-Turbo can be fixed by ur regular diesel mechanics. So far i havent had ANY problems with either engine. But i dont want my fuel pump to die on me on the motorway, cuz NO mechanic can fix that bloody EFI pump. and THAT is an exact reason why u shouldnt buy a D4D. u'll need to bring it back to Toyota Indus, no matter where u run into problems. even changing the fuel filter is a very technical process in a D4D engine.

D4D engines not recommended as the diesel fuel available here is of extremely low quality... .will ruin the common rail diesel engine... high on maintenance too.

go for the naturally aspirated or turbo versions of 2C/3C... they are good for dusty conditions and dirty fuel... cheap maintenance

and by the way The engine is avilable but the cheaper solution with more reliability wud be to put in a 3CT as hash4u said or try turboing the 2C...

you can bye any type of engine in SHOBA (peshawar) i saw a 2.0 VVTI engine probably come in Grande MarkII with complete wiring, tranny etc, he was asing 60grands at that time. saw a Mitsubishi 3.6 V6 patrol engine.
i am sure D4Ds will be available there...

What Ahsen said. Cetane number is the reason Indus has had the 1KDFTV motors removed from the Hiace. They now come equipped with 5L-E motors.

@shoaibss: 3C-T is a 2200 cc diesel engine. 3rd generation C Class Toyota Diesel Engine. difference between 3C and 2C is not as much as the difference between 1C and 2C was, performance-wise. But the Turbo version of the 3C gives u the added boost that u need; fuel consumptions appears to be comprised a bit. Its for 65000 Rs. in Shuba, Peshawar. prices fluctuate widely so u need to check right b4 ure going to buy one. im in karachi else id have found u one myself.

Sulphur would probably not damage the engine structurally, as long as you change the oil often. The oil is designed to neutralize acids as well as providing lubrication.

In older engines actually, the ULSD (Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel) actually causes problems with the injection equipment due to insufficient lubrification - yes sulphur lubricates.

IMO, the only thing that will go bang are the catalytic convertors fitted to most new diesel engines. Other than that, all should be ok. As far as the Cetane rating is concerned, probably Pakistan being a small market didn't merit the development of a new diesel map for their engine.
