Seller can demand any price, it's the buyer who is to decide to contact him or ignore him. Just demand karnay ya likhnay se kisi cheez ki wo value nai ho jati.

Yes the prices are stupid.

When we were looking for an SUV last year, 2004-5 model prados were touching 65-85.

The only ones in my range were first gen fortuners, which I hated, latest available surf, or pajero. I was already a mitsubishi fan so I found a nice 2006 model pajero imported from the UK for almost half of a similar year and condition Prado.

For me personally, the price point of Toyota's here makes no sense. I mean, we went to check out at a local dealer if they had anything. Parked there was a 2005 Cygnus for sale for 1.05 crore. The paint was garbage, the interior trims were worn out, seats ripped, speaker covers broken. I mean, come on.

If your car is in bad shape, price should be lower. But here, just because it has a specific badge on it, the price is automatically high

Well, sellers may attach sentimental value to their cars, especially if they've owned them for a long time or the car has some unique history. This sentimental attachment can inflate the asking price.

It's more like dealers post at higher than market prices and set a bar that everyone follows thinking they can sell above market price and save on dealer commission as well.

And limited availability of options also raises prices

not many true 4x4 capable suvs below 1 crore price bracket and cars prices are directly related to forex and car prices don't depreciate much in Pakistan either hardly 2-3 percent a year so an suv bought at 40-50 thousand usd after 20 years even at 50 percent depreciation would be worth 20-25k usd equivalent in PKR.

Alhamdulillah. It has been very good for being 18 years old.

It was used by the embassy here so in good condition and maintained well.

Issues I've had so far:

Starter stopped starting the engine randomly. It ended up being the solenoid. Found one in Bilal ganj, has been fine since then.

Brake Accumulator chirp noise. A common fault and I have just decided to order through parts central. Expensive, but worth it.

A/c cooling fan stopped working. Removed and took it to Bilal ganj. They fit an xli corolla motor in it. Seems fine so far.

Axle boot torn. Replaced. But this is just normal wear and tear.

The rest has just been maintenance. Air filters around 3000 per for Malaysian, 6000 for genuine. I've been using Malaysian so far so good. Diesel filters im using genuine. 4500 each, replacing every 10k.

When I bought it, trans fluid was due. Could only find a supplier on daraz. Sp-iii mitsubishi genuine fluid for 3000 per liter. Changed and it shifts like butter.

I think the key is I do about 85% of the work myself as I do not trust local mechanics. I did this in Canada too.

So far alhamdulillah, it's been a great machine.

I would try to find a 2005 or 2006 model. The newer the better obviously. 2006 models don't suffer from a common timing chain guide issue, which can break and ruin the engine. I am speaking of the 3.2 diesel as that's the one I have. The 2.8 is more common. Choice is yours of which you prefer. I never drove the 2.8, but love the 3.2 for it's power. We only use it for highway driving, and that's where the 3.2 shines.

Also, ensure the diesel pump is working correctly or has been replaced by this point. It's a common failure.

In other words, if you can find someone who maintained their pajero VERY well, it will serve you well. This can be said for other cars as well. If you search, there's pajeros all over Australia with 500,000 Kms and still going. The key is maintenance.

Parts are harder to find than your Prado or land cruiser, but you CAN still find them in big cities. Or PartsCentral can order them new from overseas. Yes, a bit pricier maybe, but for the price I paid for my pajero, it was worth it.

There is a difference in asking for a slightly higher price and asking for twice the market value and claiming that the market is very hot. To be honest, the market is not hot at all.

when the PW owner will ask 4.5million for his karachi number 1997 model prado then obviously everyone will ask accordingly. And now PW has few genuine sellers left. Majority are car dealers. PW give dealers a package for 20-25k per month to post featured ads and get inspections done. So obviously now they are running PW. What I believe initially PW was a problem for dealer mafia but now its not the case anymore. Even the cars under sell it for me section are way higher in price than other dealers as well. Although I agree PW has no means to know if the seller is a dealer or genuine seller but many people now say the same comment that majority are dealers on PW. And you can notice it from the ad content same copy paste mostly which is clear that person is a dealer and at the end its mentioned OWNED by army officer.

I was going through facebook marketplace for sportage prices and i noticed difference there and on PW. FB prices were lower than olx and PW.

But at the end its the buyer who has to make decision but truth is PW has made the prices go higher due to this dealer mafia active here. Genuine sellers are struggling selling cars due to this. Someone i know who is not able to sell his 2020 awd sportage since last 5/6 months because the prices they see on PW is what they are expecting and people are not ready to pay that.

Well, your story shows how important it is to be able to take care of your car on your own, especially if you can't find local mechanics that do the job the way you want.
