I used to have the same problem when I experienced ABS newly. With the passage of time, I get to understand the psyche of ABS. I'll put down some of my knowledge and observations in this regard.
No matter at what speed you are driving, ABS would be engaged by pressing the brake hard!
If you are driving on a normal speed, don't press the pedal too hard and apply brakes normally. That would stop the car more efficiently.
If you have to apply the brakes hard, then make sure you press the pedal hard enough as most people don't do it when they feel a vibration on their feet and a "dug dug dug" sound.
I changed the tires which improved the performance noticeably. When you apply the brakes and the tires aren't good, a car without ABS would screech/slip. This is the time ABS comes into play. So bad tires would slip at anytime increasing the amount of engaging the ABS.
ABS is not only to reduce the distance in stopping your car. As a matter of fact, tires and disk pads have a big role in it as well. But one thing that ABS provides you is the ability to steer the car while the brakes have been applied. You can't do it without ABS. So if Khuka na khawasta, you feel that the car may not stop and will bang, try to steer your way out.
Good Luck! Drive safe.
@istafa111 ur right man .. !! yes the biggest advantage of ABS is tht u can steer as u said
u are free to disagree but try that sumday n u ll know what i meant to say.i actually tried that on a vti.braked hard on such surfaces with ABS and then to deactivate ABS, i switched the engine off just at the last moment so the wheels locked and i stopped faster then before.
No I'm not disagreeing at all. In fact, you're right. But usually, most of us don't drive our cars off-road, so it's not a completely practical example. But yeah, it works.
well yes, most of us wont drive off road.i was just pointing out facts which some people dont know.
No actually Abs is not designed when u have to suddenly slam on the brakes. That is the job of brake Assist or BAS. BAS will give you more braking power with minimum force when applying brakes suddenly.
Great information guys. I guess the ABS problem might just be in my head. I used to drive an Audi before and it wasn't easy to activate the ABS. Initially the brakes were not good but then i upgraded the brake pads and installed some EBC Green Stuff, the braking improved dramatically and the car would stop literally in no time but now when I drive a different car i get a different feeling.
