I agree that those hybrid cars give pretty good mileages and less emissions. But if we ever tried to drive our gasoline Civics like we were driving a hybrid, it would definitely amaze us.
On the other hand- a hybrid, if pushed like a normal car, would keep it running on its tiny engine, always overloading it, and we won't be doing much to save our fuel or environment.
IMO fuel economy has more to do with the driving style. I've seen wiser people doing better mileage with a 1.8L iVTEC then a teenager in an iDSI
Thats the problem with cars like iDSI City, they were made to be eco-friendly and good on fuel, but we deny this bitter reality and try to push it closer to the NASCAR. And it messes up with the whole idea of iDSI.
And then we can plainly see that Honda folks here are just a bunch of morons. Who but an epic idiot would say that, in Pakistan's conditions, a 1.2L under powered car can be more economical then a reasonable 1.3L or 1.4L one? It always struggles to get in the fast lane, leaving no choice but to push the paddle a bit more... and then we're back to square one.
IMHO, driving a powerful car with a gentle pedal can be just as economical as driving an underpowered one flat out. And then there's the idea of underpowered Hybrid cars :-#
