Not a good idea. In summers engine can easily heat up because of water pump not functioning.

Please try it with car in parked position as suggested by @zakiuddin. But don't overdo it. And try to make an audio clip of it.

already tried this but couldnt hear the noise substantially.

Do you guys think maybe clogged injectors could be a reason? I have not serviced the injectors since the past 2 years (since i have the car) ??

i got the exhaust checked by 3 different exhaust mechanics in the past 1 year. all of them changed the donut flange and checked leakages under the car. But couldnt find any. Just changed the donut flange and charged me for somehting that was not broken.

Aoa. I have a 2008 Liana and I had the exact same issue in 2015 when I was living in Islamabad. I couldn't figure it out back then but thinking retrospectively, the issue disappeared after the injectors were taken off and put back on.

Get the injectors cleaned ultrasonically and change the rubber O-rings as they dry up after years of use.

I've heard Magic Motors in Model Town do the cleaning. Also, try Osama in Garden Town. Heard good things about him.

Been there, done that.. Once i ended up replacing timing chain along with some other stuff just because an exhaust bolt was a bit loose.
as Scanner Danner would say, Don't be a part changer...
Diagnosing a problem is unfortunately a skill most of our mechanics don't possess.. and to top that up, we, as customers don't pay for diagnosis, we pay for replacing stuff (whether or not it fixes our problem).
I feel your pain but the problem is somewhere in the engine bay hidden in plan sight.. Unless you are sure about whereabouts of the noise, don't replace stuff on hunches.

Zaki bhai, 100% agreed with your suggestion.

I am not satisfied with the exhaust checkups at all. But unfortunately nobody is motivated enough to diagnose the exhaust in depth (mainly because of the headers being on the back side , not the front of the engine)

because of this part changing expensive strategy of mechanics , i got the fuel filter changed a day before Eid last week. And since then my car is taking literally 20 seconds to start, sometimes even 2 - 3 tries. Any idea what is wrong now?

I agree with you on this.

I also have written in my previous posts that unless and until a proper diagnosis is done at a reputable workshop, this problem shall be difficult to resolve just by hit and trial on a forum like this one.

Not a single clue.. may be a vacuum leak or a loose connector which is usually the case any time engine maintenance is performed.
Hook up a scanner and see if there are any new codes. maybe it needs idle re-learn.. maybe something else..

Not too sure but it shouldn't be an expensive service. They do Ultrasonic cleaning and injector spray test on the machine. A visit there is on my list.

So i visited this shop. They checked for a min. and said there is no leakage from the exhaust. Although i pointed out that i think its from the manifold. But they said no. I then went to the silencer shop right next to it. Punjab Silencer House. They immediately figured it was the manifold gasket. Which they replaced in about 1 hour's time. Sounds normal now.

Still trying to find time and also get a hold of Osama so i can get my injectors checked. Lets see

Last time I visited was in 2007 must be a new guy there. I had a custom exhaust built for my 85 Charade back then.

So since I got the exhaust leak fixed, the fuel mileage had dropped significantly. From 11 to 9 in city. And from 15 to 13.0 on the motorway.

Why would this happen?? Also when the exhaust leak was fixed , the mechanic also pulled out the oxygen sensor (near the manifold) and cleaned it , then put it back in place. Any ideas guys ?

It was the exhaust manifold gasket. Leaking from both left and right cylinders.

UPDATED situation is is I took a trip to Islamabad last week. Everything was fine. But when I got back to lahore, after 2 days, I heard the same noise at start up for a min. Then the noise disappeared ( I guess because the manifold warmed up and leak was sealed by expansion). Since then , the noise comes back slightly but disappears after driving for a bit.

I took the car back to the same guy. He re tightened the bolts. And he also said that the manifold was not in a good shape. He mentioned that the manifold face was "phased out" (described that the face part was really rough and could cause leakages again).

Now I'm thinking does that mean the face is not straight anymore ?? If that's possible, then is there a way to sand down the face of the headers to achieve a once-again smooth and straight face to overcome any leakages due to the slight overall curve?
