2012 Toyota Corolla 1.6 auto replaced with manual 5 speed

Hello,

I have just replaced a 4 speed automatic transmission for a manual 5 speed gear. The car runs smoothly and able to shift into gears easily.

I have only two things remaining, the speedometer dash board is automatic-configured and the ECU is still for auto transmission.

My question is can I re-program the speedometer dash board without replacing it for a manual one (I really don't like the analog clocks on the dial), the automatic one has very nice digital dials on the dash board that I still want to keep.

Any advise?

You need a new speedometer for manual variant. For ECU its different for auto and manual. Also wiring has bit differences.

Thanks for your promptness, I can see that according to your response, I should just take everything from manual as-is and fit it/ plug it into the car (corolla 2012). I was just hesitant.

So far the former loom was working (except for the reverse lights, I forgot to mention this earlier). I had taken the auto gear ECU and turned it into "P", and plugged it onto the manual transmission, I was able to get going without replacement.

Will complete the project, in a few days (subject to budget flexibility).

By the way, 1.6 corolla manual variant from 2011 onwards is coupled with 6 speed manual gearbox. Why you didn’t go for 6 speed gearbox? About the speedometer cluster, you can find manual altis cluster with same digital things around

As local mechanics in PK tell: an ECU for auto transmission can work with a manual transmission but not the other way round.

But i think when an ECU for auto transmission is run with a manual transmission, you cannot get optimum performance out of your car due to different programming of the ECU.

regarding your other query you can continue using the instrument cluster with either ECU or transmission

Most people (particularly in the west; I presume you are from Pennsylvania, US) prefer an auto car. I was wondering why you have replaced an auto to manual transmission?
