2017 Gli Auto 1.3 Underpowered or Not

After reading so many threads , I have come to conclusion that half of members think Gli Auto 1.3 is underpowered and rest believe it's not ?

I will not go into the voting thing. But will explain a logical thing.
It depends on where are you upgrading from. If from a Mehran or Cultus, no the 1.3 A/T won't feel underpowered.

If from a City manual, Gli manual or higher variants then yes it is underpowered.

I upgraded from a Santro to 1.8 CVT Altis aur shuru me it gave me chills when i floored it. Ab kabhi kabhi mjhe ye bhi underpowered lagti he because I am used to it.

GLi just gets the things done. AC, normal routine driving, highway driving. It just gets the things done. But there is no excitement in driving it.

1.6/1.8 brings the excitements factor into play. You can trust your car for quick overtakings which is not the case for Gli auto. Fun factor makes the 1.6/1.8 a pleasure to drive. Also the price factor, 1.6 isn't that expensive from gli auto and it gives more goodies. So with these things in mind, 1.6 becomes a better bet.

Overall, no the GLi is not underpowered for daily routine driving. It's just not fun. When you spend 2 million on a vehicle, you should get a bit of fun factor too. Just my 0.02$

I am a owner of gli automatic 1.3 2015.
I upgraded from santro club and still i fell it a bit underpowered.
The car is good for city driving but when you drive on highway you have to struggle to overtake a car going equal to your speed or when a brake is applied on highway it accelerates slowly and people start to give you horn from behind in my opinion if you want some better performance you can go for manual transmission. If you want automatic transmission you can go for 1.6 variant( only 60k expensive +20k more WHT+more token tax) or higher cvt variant.

No it is not underpowered. I own a Grande and before that I owned 1.6 2015 for 14 months.

Did a round trip Islamabad-Faisalabad-Islamabad one day field trip with four adults on board (including driver) on a rented Gli AT and never felt the power was lacking at any stretch of the journey. Just felt more engine noise than by Grande or 1.6.

Having said that, I will recommend that if you can add more budget go for 1.6 at least. Again if budget is not a big problem I would recommend 1.8 because of the goodies, the power and the excellent fuel economy.

I used to get 11.5- 12 km/l max on 1.6 (City+AC)
I get 14 on 1.8 km/l

Powered (Under or over) is a personal opinion. Well if a 70cc Honda can carry three adults and in some cases even four with ease will it make it adequately powered.

Gli Auto delivers baseline utility power that is required from a city car. It is true that on highway if you are at 120 and reduce speed to 60 the time it will take to get back to 120 will be huge, if you are a city driver you wont feel that much. see your budget and decide.

Also as said earlier, 1.6 Altis is way better compared to 1.3 Gli Auto

we have 2015 altis 1.6 a/t and 1.3 a/t corolla, 1.3 a/t is pathetic not only in power even on fuel consumption. It hardly go above 8.5km/L but 1.6 Altis is doing 9.5+km/L within city drive only.

I have driven 1.3 GLi auto and big YES for it being underpowered
now I have recently switched to HONDA BRV, its an excellent vehicle with no under power issue

If by underpowered you mean to ask that during overtaking how much risk I'm willing to take on the trust that it'll succeed the overtaking safely?

than it is more underpowered than all 1.0 liter manual hatchbacks in Pakistan e.g. vitz 1st gen manual 1.0, khyber, cultus, wagon r and charade.

GLi AT is not under powered at all. It totally depends on your style and territory of use.

If you like to drive with heavy foot all the time ----- Yes GLi At will feel you underpowered
If you are a car user for city drive ---------------the GLi AT is perfect choice. I have it and easily get 12.5 with AC in city.

If you are a highway user ------------- for overtaking both GLi At and City AT struggle. 1.6 Altis on highways where you have to brake and overtake every now and then also give you feeling of drag, though it is a less than 1.3 AT, you still feel that a bit more power could have been an added advantage.

My analysis is based on being a highway, motorway and city user both on GLi AT and honda City At. I am personally moving to grande now, not because GLi AT is an underpowered donkey, but due to the driving experience grande offers for the money you pay.

To put it simple, GLi AT is work horse that will get your job done while comforting your left leg throughout your journey.

You can not say under powered you can say its acceleration is sluggish.
I drove one of my friends GLI auto 2016 model may time. To me it's good for normal city & highway driving.
But don't expect much thrill like Altis.

Sir, you owned Altis 1.6 and now Grande. You didn't have GLI neither you drove it. You have made your opinion on the basis of because you sat in it. That's it.

To add to above, for driving experience of GLi AT, mundane and unexciting is more appropriate word instead of underpowered.

Bcoz this vehicle is not designed by Indus to give you feel of power at all. This is just a tool to get your work done.

Inter city too. It was a rental for office trip. I spent like 19 hours travelling in it. Had been constantly asking driver not to drive beyond 120 km/h, and he was saying sir at night I normally go at 140 on it.

I also narrated by experience, not just hearsay. A driver knows how a car is doing even while sitting next to driver. As compared to 1.6, 1.8 yes it has less power logically. But it does the job well for what it is made.
