I believe the best place to buy genuine Caltex and Shell oils is at their pumps. Personally, after reading way more about motor oil than I care to, I have decided I will switch to Caltex Delo 400 MGX 15W40. Its reviews globally are stellar.

15W-40 dino oil, you should use for 1GD may be after 150,000 kms on the odo.

For new engine, I would suggest using 5W-30 synthetic with API SN/CF or ACEA A3/B3/B4 rating. Many oils are easily available in the market.

I was using Delvac 1 5W-40 for my vigo. But now switched to Mobil 1 0W-40 in my new Fortuner. Approx. Rs. 6000/4 liter. 7 liters are needed. OCI will be 10k.

Caltex doesn't operate pumps anymore. However, if you go to their official website you can see their list of authorized distributors in every city.

Do you think Toyota does not know about API CJ or CK ratings?

In your Fortuner manual the recommended oil is either API CF/CF-4 or ACEA B1/B3/B4/B5.

Also, do keep in mind that API Diesel oil ratings are not always backward compatible. So it is not the case that API CK oil is always better than API CF.

In my personal opinion, you are actually worried about the cost. In my opinion, Shell Helix HX 7 (blue bottle) 5W-30 oil is better than any diesel specific oil available on the market for your new Fortuner. It's specs match exactly the Toyota recommendation. Also, it is not very costly.

Also, if you observe the blue bottle carefully, it actually mentions "FOR DIESEL AND GASOLINE ENGINES."

The "Diesel" comes first. So it is a "diesel oriented oil", if that comforts you.

It’s funny that you’d assume that. To be honest, I don’t really give a bullocks about the cost. Whether a 4L bottle costs 3500 or 6000, I’m only changing the oil a couple times a year. I just don’t see the need for a thinner oil when it gets to 40C here. Find my Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel in Pakistan and I’d be a happy camper.

People need to understand that on Turbodiesel engines, the oil is not only lubricating the engine but also the turbocharger.

It is the turbocharger which specifies the boundary limits of the lubrication in most of the cases. Your dino 20W-50 Bedford Truck engine oil may be ok for the engine but it could kill your turbocharger very efficiently.

I suggest to the people who are using 15W-40 or 20W-50 dino oils in their new cars to at least give their vehicles plenty of time to heat up before driving and cool down after driving. Otherwise your car's turbocharger will loose its efficiency very early. And also refrain from short hauls of probably less than 10kms because any trips shorter than this will not properly heat your oil to provide efficient lubrication/cleaning.

20w50 is not recommended for new diesel engine, plz look at the owner manual i would suggest 5w30/5w40 or delo mgx400 15w40 which m using on my revo 3.0

I like Delo 400 MGX, and may use it at some point. But if you’re ok with 15W40, please actually compare it to 20W50. It’s VERY close in terms of viscosity.

Anyway, Petron 20W50 might be what Toyota fills from the factory...I’ll be switching to something better at 5000km.

My revo has done 25k km, 5 times engine oil/oil filter has been changed. First time was from Toyota dealership but other 4 times I got caltex delo mgx400. You can check Mobil 1 delvac or liqui moly synthoil fully synthetic 5w40.

This is your car and you have all the authority to whatever lubricant you want to use in your car.

And for your info, we already know that Toyota Indus uses the cheapest option available in the market wherever they have a choice.

your engine requires an ACEA B3 oil - with 5W40 requirements. Shell Helix Ultra meets that. Delvac meets that too.

No confusion at all on my end...I just know that Indus fills Dezon 20w50 in all new Fortuners with the diesel 1GD. Obviously that doesn’t mean it’s my preferred oil, so I’ll be switching at the first oil change.

Toyota do crazy stuff, when they first started selling the diesel corolla in Pakistan assembled by IMC, they filled it up with straight SAE50 API CF oil.

This also happened in USA too with the 2012 camry - permanent power steering noise right from the showroom floor - and all customers nodding in delight that its a factory noise. They didnt fix it, it was eventually fixed by private workshops who sonic cleaned the oil tank and flushed the system with ford mercon V ATF.

I didn’t come across anyone posting exactly which oil was used from the factory, and there appeared to be confusion about whether it was Petron...so I thought I’d share as an FYI (I’d assume you know what that means, but clearly not). Not sure why you’re being a prick about it.

You are right though...all local manufacturers cut corners and the cars here are crap compared to their counterparts anywhere else in the world. But even that doesn’t give you an excuse to misinterpret my post and pretend like you know a lot about cars lol...

@Xulfiqar sb. A question for you. I am planning to visit Skardu in coming winter holidays. Min. temps over there now a days hovering around -10 deg. C. What precautions to take?

I have found in the market "ABRO Diesel Anti Gel DA-946". Should I use it? If yes, then what should be the preferred method or concentration to be used.

I don't know exactly what happens. But you can see that diesel vehicles are still being used there. I suspect that it is due to mixing of kerosene with HSD there. Otherwise as I know the winter CFPP of Paksitani HSD is only +3 deg. C. This is definitely not suitable for sort of temperatures which are there in Skardu now a days.

Also, should I use any other Diesel additive e.g., STP Diesel or LM additives. I have a fear that HSD in Skardu has kerosene mixed in it in very high concentrations.
