just sharing my experience i used to pour in LM NO SMOKE in my 2D with gr8 results. better torque, better milage and less smoke.

it went in with diesel fuel, not an oil additive.

Yes sir. You are right. LM additives are quite good.

Also, you are right that this thread is for engine oil recommendation. Additives for fuel or diesel is little off topic. But having @Xulfiqar on the thread, I took the liberty to discuss this question. It is definitely relevant for owners of newer diesel 4x4 vehicles who opt to use them for such long distance travelling/overlanding.

In normal day to day driving conditions if you are filling diesel from a reputable pump, then there is no need to use any specific additive, especially for new vehicles.

My question is very specific. It is related to the cold weather gelling of diesel and how to avoid it. New Toyota vehicles including new hilux and forturner, have plastic or carbon fibre fuel tanks. So the "desi totka" of using fire under the fuel tank to heat up gelled diesel is very dangerous. I have seen many drivers in Skardu side doing this. The other way to avoid this gelling is mixing kerosene with diesel. But on many forums, I have read people advising against this practice for new CRDI diesel engines.

I am also worried about diesel being sold in those areas which is already adulterated with kerosene. So how to equalize or reduce its effect on the engine, is another question.

So the last option is to use some specific diesel additive or additives. And as you know in Pakistan we are still living in the stone age apart from our use of social media where we excel. That is the reason, that I thought appropriate to ask the solution here. There are definitely some sensible people on PW (although their number is quite debatable) and I hope I will get some sensible answer(s). Cheers,

Confusion is both oils are reasonably priced and no mummy daddy packaging.......best oil in Pakistan is that oil which have sunny Leone pic along with a Lamborghini.... nobody bothers flash point viscosity TBN etc

Sir their Corollas are selling like hot cakes.....why should they bothered.....in Punjabi we say (Inna da mooter v blda e teh tail d ki lor) means their urine burns like fuel.....then why should they use fuel

kero mixed diesel is sold in frozen tundras like alaska, it lowers the cloud and gel point of diesel fuel so it can actually fire, the additive is required if you are carrying a regular summer/tropical fuel load in the tank.

for winter where the you discover water is solid rather than liquid you need a full synthetic oil in the oil sump, a good solid battery with an insulating blanket on it or even a heater on the battery.

btw - I find it cute that you -10C is very cold.

I’ve experienced temps down to -25 Fahrenheit, and we used plug in block heaters and an electric heating blanket stuck to the oil pan for a few hours so the engine would crank lol...worst thing to wake up to in the morning.

yes, it is terrible to wake up to that, plugged in everything,
doors stuck bad, tires square for 2 miles.

So you mean mixing kerosene is normal. It will not impact the fuel system.

Suppose there is no kerosene adulteration. Then should I use the additive I mentioned above? or will everything be ok with Diesel having CFPP 3 deg C?

Will this work with the Diesel Fortuner ? Given the packaging says it’s for Gasoline but the rating/certification is API SN/CF and ACEA A3/B4.
Or should I go and return these or try finding a diesel variant ?

My issue is that I can get Shell oils via a fleet card so don’t want to spend extra $ on Delvac etc on own expense.

Apparently it used to say it was for gasoline and Diesel engines...I think this just changed recently. But the specifications are clearly for diesel also and I think it’s fine. It has the same specifications as Mobil 1 5W50, which is the only other full synthetic that I’ve found readily in Karachi.

So I checked with a friend at Shell Pakistan and he confirmed after consulting technical team that the Helix Ultra is suitable for both gasoline and Diesel engines.

Went to Rawal Motors, for first 1000 K inspection and just had a chat about change of oil from their version to Delvac 1. The sale guy tried 'really' hard to convince me that the said 'Fully Synthetic Oil' is actually detrimental for Pakistani conditions and that there are customers complaining about having 'engine noise' after having used it. =)

One really has to wonder how many people they feed this kind of stuff to, on a daily basis?

Engine noise after high detergent oil is due to oil cleaning sludge really hard

So I went for the first oil change at 2500KMs. Key highlights as below:
- off the bat, Toyota rejected using the Helix Ultra I took with me saying the warranty will be void because they say so.
- unlike popular opinion/facts, they did not recommend the Petron 20W-50 but instead Petron 10W-30
- at checkout when I asked the service reception why they say oil change should be at 2500 instead of 5000 as per manual, he said for thick oils such as 20W-50 in PK conditions based on historic data points they know that 20W-50 needs quick changes. However the 10W-30 they used is recommended for 5000 KMs.
-Guy seemed well informed and call it my slave mentality he spoke fluent English
- I went for Petron to keep the warranty.
- without filter it cost PKR5400 for 2 x 4L containers
- as per service summary given to me, next oil change along with oil filter change to be done after 5000KMs

What next? Will they recommend a specific suit to be worn by the driver which is provided by them?

For God's sake, why don't you understand? They are playing bluff with you in order to just sell their own brand of cheapo oil. Do you seriously believe that they will honour their commitment, if God forbid you ever need to get something expensive replaced under warranty.

Personally, I don't bother. Toyota warranty is sh**.

It was probably 15 years ago. I got replaced an A/C condenser under warranty from a 3S Toyota dealer. What they actually did was to remove a condenser from one of their in-stock new vehicles, installed that one in my car. And the very leaking condenser they removed from my car they installed in that new vehicle.

This is how Toyota Indus warranty works. After that incident, I pay from my pocket even if some replacement comes under warranty. Go figure!

ask for this "warranty void" claim of using engine oil on a paper signed off by someone in authority from "Indus Motors"

I can assure you the english speaker will pee his pants and probably shoo you away - Its the easiest way to make people tremble in Pakistan - just ask for paperwork.

If he gives you some paperwork - you can use that to your advantage - contact the original manufacturer and regional branch (UAE) - then watch the nice drama show unfold.
