So, finally had a chance to physically inspect Honda City. It was 1.5 CVT base variant - White.
Initial impressions:
Front looks very beautiful (Even if its an older gen-front profile doesn't look dated)
Sides are fine... nothing special
Back looks dated ( aisay lagta hai agay say gari design ki laikin phir thak gaye designers or back Suzuki Ciaz ki copy paste kar di with minor changes)
Seats are comfortable.. a first for CITY.. I was pleasantly surprised.
Meter cluster is ..well to me it looks like a BRV replica.. looks very bland...Toyota optitron meters look far better.
Although the rear leg room is outstanding... front leg room is suboptimal... it felt congested in the driving seat..with seat moved fully backwards.
The look and feel of steering/dashboard is premium... much better than Yaris.
Doors panels/buttons etc are seemingly of lower quality. While the dashboard feels premium, door panels don't.
Similarly, the CVT gear assembly area plastic seems of lower quality than the one used around dashboard plus its colour is slightly faded in comparison... looks very odd and out of place.. I hope this is not the case with actual production models and is just an early hiccup..
Surprisingly, the assembly which holds/connects the rear doors to the main body had rust all around. The sales staff couldn't come up with a proper reply as to why it has rusted when it hasn't even been on the road yet.
Except for the fore mentioned rusting... the overall built quality seemed pretty good and much better than Yaris.
All in all, it looks like a decent product but the price isn't justified at all.
Secondly, I sincerely hope that Honda doesn't repeat the same sordid saga of built quality issues faced by early CIVIC X adopters.
