That's understandable, we should not race with these cars. But performance specs should be considered for two reasons
- How well the vehicle may perform on hilly areas
- How well can vehicle accelerate at motorway speeds. Suppose you want to overtake a car and your current speed is 100, and you want to quickly reach 110 or 120. An under-powered vehicle may take forever to gain speed in this situation.
I think these drag races prove some points.
These are the situations where power, torque, power to weight ratio, Cd (drag coefficient) all matters.
If we look at the specs of all the entry-level sedans, I can rank best to the worst performer like this
1) City 1.5
2) Alsvin 1.5
3) Yaris 1.5
1) Alsvin 1.4 (yes it's 1.4, not 1.3)
2) Saga 1.3 and Yaris 1.3 have almost similar performance because of Saga's less weight
3) City 1.2
