I have 2022 Honda City (Aspire CVT). 8000 km driven
Oil change is due now. Last time it was done at 3.5k km.

Honda dealership charge too much, it would cost me around 20k for oil, oil filter and air filter(labour tax etc.)

Can u suggest me other way around for oil, oil filter and air filter.

Which oil can I use as an alternate and how much liters.(dealership pours 3.7 liters)
Which grade oil should I use.
Which oil filter and air filter I should use
What other things I should consider checking/changing other than oil, oil filter and air filter.

Honda 0W-20 oil from dealership is the cheapest option in the market. The cost goes up due to OEM oil and air filters. Alao the labour is higher than market.

No after market filter can match the quality of OEM atleast in Pakistan. There's a reason they are expensive due to its better filteration and fit and finish. For low mileage vehicle, you can extend oil change interval to 6 months for synthetic oils

If you want cheaper after market option, you can try guard filters from daraz since they have official store and you will get guaranteed geniune parts.

Guard 5W-20 oil in 4 liters packing. You need 3.6 liters. You can safely use 5W-20 where 0W-20 is recommended

Just to let you know. You'll void your car's warranty if you don't choose the dealerships for your regular maintenance and get it done from outside.
The dealerships charge more for the parts. When I inquired, the brake pads were quoted for 22,000, I got the same OEM ones from outside for 14,000

With Civic X's known CVT trasmission issues, are you guys worried about the durablity of the CVT of this City's transmission?
Has anybody done CVT fluid change done? What do you recommend on best dealership to get it done in Pindi/Islamabad?
At what interval are you doing the CVT oil change?

CVTs are fragile, no matter from which manufacturer it comes from. Toyota and Honda CVTs are considered better than others worldwide, but still it's a weak transmission, specially when abused and not maintained. You cannot drive it like manuals without changing the gear oil.

Honda recommends CVT fluid change at 40,000 km or 2 years, whichever comes first. If you have a low mileage vehicle and have not crossed 40k yet but 2 years have passed, just change the fluid. Don't take risk.

Other than that, change CVT filter as well. There's no recommendation on its change interval in the owner's manual. Some suggest changing it with every other CVT fluid change at 80k

My cousin has 2017 grande CVT and he's now near 200K mark with that. Still going strong and he goes to northern areas every year for the holidays.

You can find Civic owners with high mileage as well. I can share multiple Corolla videos where CVT chain broke.
The longevity of CVT depend on 2 things
1) How you use the vehicle? These transmissions are not for racing. Driving it at high rpms most of the time is a big no-no.
2) Change its fluid regularly within the specified intervals.

A lot of fear mongering in your posts regarding automatic transmissions, specially CVT.

This isn’t 2007 anymore sir.

People do and have been buying very reliable autos for close to a decade.

Super reliable - specially anything made after 2010/12.

Toyota CVTs are rock solid. Haven’t heard of much issues with Hondas either, going strong hundreds of thousands of miles.

Any machine can fail at any point, even at 5000 km. Manual transmissions fail and go wrong at the same time. You can quote me some YouTube videos and I’ll post the same number of videos where manuals have gone bad.

So for @lonewolf1 bro go for Honda civic eyes closed.

It’s very reliable. You’re not driving a 17 wheeler truck that you need a manual or some special form of transmission.

Just inspect the car well before buying if it’s a used one.

CVTs are not as reliable as traditional autos and manual transmission. This is a fact. You can talk to anyone who rebuild transmissions. Or anyone who work on cars professionally. See what percentage of failures they face with different transmission types.

Try driving your CVT aggressively every day and don't change CVT fluid for more to 100,000 kms. See if it survives. I have seen many manual transmissions which keeps on going no matter how the owner maintain it or don't maintain it at all.

I own a CVT vehicle as well, but I know its limitations and hence I maintain and use it accordingly. All I am saying is if you want to prolong its life, be gentle with the accelerator and change the fluids on time.

Changing the fluids on time is required for all mechanical machines, including engine and transmission.

Driving it fast or slow won’t make much of a difference.

I had a vitz with cvt and I used to drive it like I stole it to keep its cat clear aka italian tune up but it never gave up on me. If I would have read this post and the thread at that time I would have pampered that poor baby really well

Also have a decade old Vitz with CVT, hate driving like an uncle and always pushing it. Still going strong.

Corolla Grande CVT it’s more than six years old and fun to drive, so i rarely if ever go gentle on it.

For both I haven’t done regular cvt oil changes either, that’s my bad as I’m lazy but just making a point they’re still
reliable in this era.

Now some manufacturers in the past had a bad reputation for making cvts, it was also a new thing back then.
By now I don’t think it matters and most have pretty good manufacturing practices.

I would also expect Honda to have pretty good cvts.

Jatco CVTs by Nissan (used in current PKDM swift) are still bad according to the user reviews worldwide and this was a deciding factor for me selecting between PKDM swift and the GM6 city.

I am just trying to understand what to expect for our investment. I read in other forums that people aer either looking to sell their suzuki swift around 3-4th year of ownership or buy extended warranties due to Jat-CO.
I read a big thread on Civic xmissions issues (it should be on first page of this forum in Civic tag).

Just get the oil changed. Get the oil filter changed if it wasn't in the last oil change. Air filter at 8k is totally unnecessary. Honda manual states 30k for air filter but dealers push for 10k for extra profits for them. My own city's air filter has never been changed and it's at 29k Kms. Alhamdulillah performance and fuel economy is still as good as ever.

Best to get things done from honda as long as it's in warranty. Aftermarket oils, the reasonable quality ones are priced around the same as honda oil and a good genuine filter is gonna cost pretty much the same as honda too. If you find a good oil and filter for cheap, it's originality would definitely be in doubt. So yeah you won't save much by getting quality stuff aftermarket. Just don't get the air filter changed and you'll save a good amount of money.

The local dealerships seem to be really suffering in terms of service revenue / sales.

I was the first sale of the day at 11AM for my local honda dealer here in Karachi when I took my city for an oil change 2 months ago. How times have changed!

Even got a call to bring in my non honda vehicle which I took to the honda dealership a long time ago for service.

Does maintenance free battery that comes with aspire require distill water refill..? Coz today i saw mechanic was opening it’s cap to check water level with a washer type tool.

I believe it's a low maintenance battery. The AGS MF battery is now green in colour (yellow previously).
