2nd Generation Vitz Engine Conversion:

As-Salaam-Alaikum! I have 2006 Vitz, {F VARIANT}, 1KR. The car is bid underpower without A/C and with A/C it gets more sluggish. It has also the issues of rough idling. Fuel average is also not good. With this sluggish performance it provides 8/10KM/L with A/C and without A/C 10/12KM/L. Some people say that its a 3 cylinder engine so rough idling is common and underpower because the power to weight ratio is huge in this model. But I’m not sold out to these reasons. Some advices to change the engine from 3 cylinder 1000CC to 4 cylinder 1300CC or 1500CC. But don’t have idea about the pricing. Please if anyone can help about the prices of the engine and what will be recommended for this particular vitz [NZ/SZ]?

Both 2SZ 1.3L and 1NZ 1.5L are good choice for this model of Vitz, fuel average and overall performance will be much better if the job is done by a good mechanic. I previously had Passo but sold it off due to same reasons i.e poor fuel economy, repeated AC problems and extremely sluggish. It was my first car so maybe maintenance wasn't done right or something but I've heard same from other owners as well. Regarding price, I bought a 1NZFE 1.5L with 4 spd automatic transmission for 85k around 4 years ago, they come with both CVT and AT. Prices have increased so maybe it will be around 120-150k as of now. You can visit Caristanyan's youtube channel, he has done similar Vitz projects with 1.3L and 1.5L engines so you'll get an idea about this conversion as well.

Thank you so much! for your response. it is really helpful. Was planning to convert to 1.3L cause 1.5L will be to much power (for this one) cause it’s a daily commute car. By far the issue of rough idling, i am cleaning throttle body by myself at home after every oil change, and it’s very controlled but again after a week, (vibration) starts again.

Yes it's an issue with these 3 cylinder 1KR engines, a friend has a 2011 Vitz 1.0L and it also vibrates too much to the point it becomes annoying. Reason why people love the 1st gen Vitz is due to the 4 cylinder 1SZ and 2SZ engines. You can convert to 1.3L if you like, but just be sure that the mechanic and electrician for wiring etc are good and ofcourse the kabli engine which you're going to buy.
