3B 3,4 L Diesel Engine in BJ-60 1985 model

Hello Everyone-
Does this engine come with 24V or 12V battery option? How can one know by examining the engine only ? There is only one battery location available under the hood. Can a single battery with higher amp rating compensate lower voltage supply? Effect is engine cranking takes time and sounds like struggling-

Starter motor is 24 volt rated. not 12

Thank you for this information - so only either 24 or 12 V starter motor will be able to mount on 3B 3,4 L engine to avoid damage of electrical wiring ?

you may please download this pdf for tech details of 3B diesel motor. it is large 143Mb file with multiple engine data from late 1970s' to Mid 90s'

Yes but people change it to 12v by changing the bell housing and using all other parts of 12v.
If its struggling it shows you need a good battery.
And glow plugs should be tested as if they are not working properly, the engine will struggle starting up

Starter armature was changed and alternator refurbishment was done to give 14 V output - higher than 12V - issue of engine delayed cranking came under control
