4 Day trip to Swat, Mahodand and Shangla Pass

The first sight of Alpuri was spellbounding. Location of Alpuri is awesome

One thing which was very pleasant to see is that most of the rooftops is Swat and Shangla are very nicely painted in bright colours

Even bridges at many places have been painted in pleasant colours.

about 15, 20 km before Besham, road is badly eroded at few very small patches due to floods in recent years. However, these spots are very few and does not cause any hindrance to driving. One just need to slow down while passing these spots.

On way, we saw a medium size hydropower dam. After coming back, i checked on google and came to know that it was Khan Khwar Hydropower Dam. Since police always stop while taking pics of such things, so we could only take few pics and those too while driving

Finally we reached Besham

Last pics were of a rest stop near Chattar plain. After that it was continuous drive of almost 5 to 5.5 hours. There was extreme rush between Shinkiari and Abbotabad.

On way back, we stopped for few minutes at Forest rest house of Kalam forest. It was almost dark, so i had to reduce shutter to as low as 1 sec. Hence sufficient light was captured

Its location is wonderful, but now it is in dilapidated condition, mainly bcoz the area is still not handed over to civil authorities.

Road till Bahrain in very good. Almost as good as Kaghan valley road, but it is much straighter and without curves in contrast to Kaghan valley road.

Brother Ali: is it advisable to take Civic 2013 from Bahrain to Kalam?

Road ahead of Bahrain is extremely pathetic. 4-5% road is broken and remaining 95-96% road does not exist.

However the scenery and alpine greenery on mountains start getting better as we move ahead of Bahrain

W/ salam Jamal bhai! I took the matta road right from Shamozai bridge. There is a road linking this with mingora. I took that road to go to mingora and also to come back. To go towards matta, i came back on the matta road. From matta, when we move further north, there is a bridge at bagh dheri which takes us to old swat road. Fatehpur is few km ahead of bagh dheri from where we can go to miandam.

Actually any car can go till kalam, but better is not to take the car. If i were to go to swat again, i would go till mingora on daewoo and will then hire a local car to go ahead.
