45 psi in suzuki van

Today at a local petrol pump as i was waiting to have tire pressure chk. i was horrified this suzuki van owner was telling the guy chking pressure to make it 45 psi in all tires of that little van.

i think that's way too much pressure for this size of tire and weight on it. how can it grip the road?

Yup it wont grip but they use this technique to save on Fuel !

That compromises the safety of the passengers !

yes it reduces consumption alot but makes the car hard to control as the active Surface Area of the tires reduces !

I put 35 and 40 in my '90 3-Door Pajero. It's great for it, doesn't wallow or skid at all. The only thing that you lose is comfort if you over inflate you tires by about 10 to 15%. Any higher, and the tire starts bouncing all over the place.

I think this Bolan might not be too bad with 45. It's got narrow tires remember, not 205s or anything, so a higher pressure might be needed. Still, I haven't got any experience with it. Incidentally, the max allowed pressure rating printed on a Dunlop Grandtrek I once used was 65 PSI (Never went THAT high!).

here is the official rating by the company, we people jump to conclusions straight away
