5AFE engine with 324,000KM getting noisy

Salam, I have a toyota corolla 1996 with a 5AFE engine (manual transmission) and has 324,000km. The car is smooth Alhamdulillah, but I’ve noticed that engine has become generally loud, almost unpleasant at highway speeds. I also think some general diagnosis needs to be done since its been driven a lot.

I’m in Lahore and am posting here hoping to get some advice and ideally have the car diagnosed by a reliable and experienced mechanic.

Has become loud? Is the car buzzing and droning? Because 324000 kms on a 5afe isnt considered high mileage, it should sound exactly like a 100,000 kms engine

There is some buzzing and humming - I'll post videos of its sound on idle, normal speed and highway speed.

Here's how it sounds on idle, there's a distinct shrill sound upon revving - also, cold start used to be quick but not anymore.

This is mechanical noise, sounds like piston slap or rod bearing noise via video. Does it get better or worse when warmed up?

The constant rattle is some extenal rotating part

And why did your engine take 10 to 15 revs to start? 5AFE should start within 2 or 3 compression humps of the starter. Is it wired incorrect?

Sound stays the same when warmed up.

There was no wiring work done, I'm not sure why its taking longer to start - it used to startup instantly.

I read 3900RPM at 125KPH in 5th, higher than 4000RPM feels very uncomfortable because it gets very loud.

Where should I have it checked up?

I also heard the exhaust manifold gasket leaking on revving the engine.

Probably a warped manifold because the mechanic tightened it wrong.

Long crank especially at first start may be due to an empty fuel rail. Maybe the injectors are leaking/dribbling

You are right, empty fuel rail, because in older toyota the fuel pump should prime when the starter is engaged not on simply key on.

What was toyota logic behind this? Safe fuel pump?

Its a safety catch and the secondary catch was the circuit opening relay, which was latched by the ecu itself and disconnected when the engine lost crank sensor signal

sir @Xulfiqar is there a procedure to check intake manifold leakage. would you please guide in plain English so its easy to understand and ask mechanic to perform that. NIssan 1991 JX-B13 / GA 13 engine runs smooth but at kick down - it stalls and revs up with delay.
