5VZ vs 1GR - Performance & Reliability

Assalam o Alaikum, Pakwheeler!

I posted on here a couple of weeks ago seeking options to upgrade from my 5VZ FE FJ120. The best option for the budget I had was getting a 1GR FJ120 and that is finally happening.

I know for a fact, as I’ve driven both, that 1GR is way more powerful and fuel efficient than a 5VZ because of VVTI. Are there any key precautions? Because some people think 1GR isn’t as reliable.

i believe 1GR is predecessor (new version) of JZ & VZ series.

someone in my family using 2014 model v6 Fortuner in Dubai since zero meter purchase and I think that is a 1GR if I Am not wrong. That machine is driven more than 4lac kms now and I asked him if he ever faced any issues. His reply was zero issues with it ever. It never broke and no work done on it ever. Still going with the regular engine oil/filter change routine maintenance and its still going strong. And that guy is an aggressive driver who accelerates hard every time and he has used it in deserts some times as well. So it must be something reliable.
